BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Lead Data Scientist /Data Engineer in Bengaluru, India

Job Description Summary

Lead Data Scientist/Data Engineer - 7 to12 years of experience

The Lead Data Scientist is a critical position for understanding of the current state of BD’s product performance, quality system performance and regulatory compliance standards. They will lead discussions with Global Process Owners, Quality Organizations within BU’s Regions and TGS to bring existing 3 AI Data Models to Production and expand models across BU’s and Regions. Build a pipeline of use cases working with Quality Organizations at manufacturing plants to identifying root causes to prevent product defects. Lead a team of 2-3 data scientist and manage deliverables of consultants to drive business value. Perform cost benefit analysis for model expansion advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with stakeholder while mentoring & training a team data scientist based in India. In this role, you will oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of traditional & generative AI models and applications that create high-quality and diverse content across various domains and modalities. Hands on experience a must.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy: Develop and complete a data science strategy aligned with Central Quality’s goals and objectives

  • Understand Quality business problems and design end-to-end data science use cases to meet stakeholder needs, while developing business case demonstrating the value add

  • Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of data analysts, data engineers, and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments within Quality, the different business units and across the corporate enterprise to identify product and operational opportunities for data-driven improvements and efficiencies.

  • Work closely with TGS partners to build or implement 3rd party solutions to accommodate business needs i.e. Central Quality Lead for Deployment of Databricks ML OPS environment.

  • Lead and manage AI initiatives, providing guidance and direction on best practices and techniques with a specific focus on managing AI Ops technologies and architecture ( Oversee Framework : model creation, evaluation, design & integration & bring to production for GXP validated system, avoiding data drift).

  • Oversee technical documentation is written and maintained for AI products/projects

  • Hands on development and testing related to AI solutions (Gen AI /LLM experience required)

  • Data Integration : Be responsible for the integration of data from various sources, both internal and external, to create a unified view to meet business needs.

  • Guide the Increase Data Literacy by presenting demo’s & workshops about the business potential and strategy of artificial intelligence (AI)/data science.

  • Communicat e the design, development, and deployment processes and results of generative AI products/projects to Quality GPO’s and stakeholders

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, encouraging the exploration and adoption of new techniques and technologies.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders , including clients, partners, and internal teams, to ensure the successful delivery of AI solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Management Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and management skills

  • Domain expertise – experience working on AI projects/products related to the medical device industry a plus

7 years experience in the following:

  • working in the AI/ML space in a hands-on manner

  • Python development

  • working with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc

  • data modeling and engineering

  • creating & evaluating machine learning models

  • working with AI Deployment and DevOps features, such as containerization, pipelines, and infrastructure as code (i.e Azure DevOps, Azure Kubernetes Service, Docker, etc)

  • working with the cognitive services suite available in Azure (i.e cognitive search, document intelligence, Azure machine learning, etc)

  • working with SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Foundational understanding of LLMs and associated frameworks (i.e langchain)

  • Experience with Azure OpenAI & DataBricks

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of generative AI techniques and algorithms (i.e retrieval augmented generation)

  • Working knowledge in DevOps procedures and data engineering

  • Ability to design and architect scalable and robust AI systems and applications

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical, medical device or other regulated field a plus

  • Strong background writing technical documentation as it relates to AI
