System One is seeking a Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity, with a hybrid work model, supporting our client in Bellevue, WA. Exceptional candidates requiring a remote work model, will be considered. In this role, you will create and review design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and design and qualification. Experience in equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is also valued.

Responsibilities

• Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design.

• Support fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.

• Develop system and equipment design products such requirements, system design descriptions, interface control documents, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and calculations.

• Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, and regulatory requirements.

• Document design engineering work through technical writing of system design descriptions, equipment design specifications, design reports, trade studies, and calculations/analyses.

• Present design results in design reviews.

• Review and assess technical merit of solutions provided by team members and subcontractors by participating in design reviews.

• Propose and initiate testing programs and provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.

• Interface with and support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports.

  Ideal Background

• Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or System Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines such as Industrial or Nuc lear may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience. M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.

• A minimum of three years of system and/or process design is required.

• Prior experience in the nuclear industry with nuclear fuel handling systems is preferred but not required.

• Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.

• Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.

• Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.

• Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.

• The successful candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction to solve challenging problems.

• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.

• Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
