Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer in Bellevue, Washington

Description

The delivery promises we make are key to acquiring and retaining customers and influence the short and long term profitability of Amazon’s global retail business. We serve as the interface between customer expectations and Amazon's industry leading fulfillment capabilities. We are part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) group that develops and manages systems that optimize inventory acquisition and placement so products are available for fast delivery. Our systems also optimize transportation and fulfillment plans to enable delivery options for our customers.

The Promise team is looking for an exceptional Business Intelligence Engineer with broad technical skills to develop analytic and reporting capabilities that to improve the customer experience by developing analytics that surface signals from our fulfillment network to display more relevant offers to customers (e.g., by ranking faster shipping products higher in Search results), create new customer experiences (e.g., by messaging items that ship with items in your cart), and nudge customers towards lower cost / lower carbon fulfillment (e.g., by increasing prominence of locally available offers in recommendations).

The ideal candidate is a highly analytical and critical thinker with advanced problem-solving, data mining, and scripting (Python or Scala) skills. They enjoy collaborating with top economists, research scientists, data engineers, product managers and software developers to make decisions for Amazon's retail and operations teams. The candidate will be responsible for metrics, dashboards, and measurement across Promise platforms and fulfillment signal products to help improve evaluate inventory, fulfillment capabilities, and carrier capabilities. Your work will have a direct impact on Amazon's business and customer promise.

Key job responsibilities

  • Defining, developing, and maintaining automated critical business and operational reports

  • Analyzing historical data to identify trends and providing callouts to support decision making, including written and verbal presentation of results and recommendations

  • Performing ad hoc deep dives to support the business and identify opportunities

  • Collaborating with software development teams to implement analytics systems and data structures to support large-scale data analysis and delivery of machine learning and econometric models

  • Mining and manipulating data from database tables, simulation results and log files

  • Identifying data needs and driving data quality improvement projects

  • Understanding the broad range of Amazon’s data resources, which to use, how, and when

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience developing and presenting recommendations of new metrics allowing better understanding of the performance of the business

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

  • Demonstrated ability to directly partner with business owners to understand requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work with technical teams to deliver accurate and scalable reporting and analytics solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

    • Experience with Supply Chain and Operations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
