About the Role

This Technical Writer role will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between Technical teams, Product Owner, and Customers and Stakeholders. You will play a pivotal role in our product development life cycle, creating high quality documentation that supports the product user experience and development process. Your documentation will serve as a vital resource for hundreds of teams in understanding not only how the product works, but also what they should be doing to improve their own engineering practices.

You will also be key in supporting our Product Owners in acting as a liaison between stakeholders and development teams, ensuring clear and consistent communication occurs through requirements and delivery. Finally, you will be working closely with Engineering, QA, Design and Customer teams to gather information and ensure all documentation is accurate and clear.

About the Department

Developer Engineering & Engineering Excellence Tech is a function within CTO, responsible for measuring and supporting Engineers across Citi. Our mission is to make it easy and enjoyable for software engineering teams to go from a business idea to delivering an innovative product solution. The main goals are to improve and upgrade our tools, streamline our processes, automate and strengthen our controls, and help development teams adopt modern working methods.

We are an expert team to transform the working environment of the 60,000 people who make up the Citi engineering community and help them dramatically change their approach to developing software across the many different technologies we support. The Developer Engineering group has a challenging remit, but with the scale and variety comes a unique opportunity to be agents of cultural and technical change who significantly impact the bank.

About the Team

The Measurement, Optimisation, Recognition, and Engagement team is responsible for measuring Technical Achievement and DevOps Outcomes across Citi Technology and helping to foster a collaborative, open culture amongst our developer communities.

The team identifies, develops, and maintains automated measurement of Productivity Metrics, DevOps Capabilities, and Technical Recognition items which application teams can use to recognise their peers, discover and adopt new methods and contribute solutions for use by the wider organisation.

The team is also responsible for working with the other Developer Engineering streams to ensure capabilities are implemented within infrastructure, taught in training courses and advertised and discussed across the developer community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive, clear, and concise technical documentation including user guides, API documentation, system architecture diagrams and release notes

  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to gather information and ensure accurate documentation, to improve communication amongst all interested parties

  • Continuously update and improve documentation to reflect product changes and incorporate customer feedback

  • Ensure documentation is accessible and user-friendly, for various audiences, including developers, end-users and stakeholders

  • Support Product Owners in defining and refining product feature documentation, ensuring developer understanding of requirements and clarity of required delivery

  • Create detailed business and technical requirements and release documentation that support the development process

  • Assist User Experience lead in development of user personas, customer journeys and use-case scenarios

  • Working with existing technical writers in CTO - who have defined style, standards and tooling

Experience:

  • Multiple years of experience as a Technical Writer in a software development environment

  • Ability to translated complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation

  • Strong understanding of software development processes and agile methodologies

  • Experience in tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Git-based Version-Control systems

  • Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate

  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills

  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

  • Experience with using static site builders, such as Hugo, together with the MarkDown markup language

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

  • Master’s degree preferred
