Assistant Controller Summary:

Responsible for the Accounting operations of Peapack-Gladstone Financial Corporation and all subsidiaries. Direct duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance of stock equity programs, Lease accounting system, Monthly closing and consolidations, various tax duties, treasury share tracking, Payroll review and oversight of the Purchasing function. Indirect duties include overseeing the Accounts Payable Department, general ledger account reconciliations, oversee Fixed Asset and Prepaid functions and the Corporate Credit Card program. Supervise a staff of four direct reports and two indirect reports. Supervisory duties include managing all personnel matters, the distribution of the department workload, monitoring workflows and preparing quarterly performance metrics. Assist with various other duties as assigned.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Manage the equity tracking systems for restricted stock units, phantom stock cash plan and for the ESPP Plan.

  • Oversee all functions of the Accounts Payable Department.

  • Ensuring that General Ledger and Official Check account reconciliations are prepared / reviewed on a timely basis.

  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closings.

  • Quarterly oversight of accrued expenses to ensure appropriate levels are maintained.

  • Manage the third-party Lease tracking system (Lease Query).

  • Reconcile and track PGC Treasury Share Repurchase programs.

  • Manage the Purchasing and Corporate credit card functions.

  • Coordination of periodic Silverlake software release upgrades for the Finance department.

  • Manage various external relationships such as FHLB, Wells Fargo and FHN.

  • Manage annual tax return preparation schedules and provide quarterly tax provision support as needed.

  • Work closely with the Corporate Controller, Chief Accounting Officer, as well as the Financial Reporting and Payroll departments.

  • Hire, train and supervise team members.

  • Manage all personnel matters for department staff.

  • Set quarterly goals for staff and monitor progress.

  • Perform additional related duties as requested, including special projects.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or MBA a plus.

  • At least seven years of General Accounting and supervisory experience.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage high-volume departments in a demanding environment.

  • Experience with Ascend/Banktel and Lease Query software programs is a plus.

  • Must be an organized, accurate, reliable and detail minded individual.

  • Must have good oral and written communications skills, including the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency in Excel is required.

Reporting to this position:

  • One Accounts Payable Manager and three Staff Accountant positions
