Job Summary/Basic Function

About This Role:

Provides academic advising for students in the Department of Computer Science. Assist faculty and program directors in maintaining academic files and student related data.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

  • Advise online and on-campus students in person, by telephone, and/or via email/virtual session regarding core curriculum, degree progress, campus resources, graduation, and university requirements.

  • Verify various student requests, including CPT , OPT , travel, credit transfer, major change, scholarship, graduation, etc. Complete the necessary paperwork and prepare degree plans and audits."

  • Verify requirements and monitor student progress toward a degree using various student information systems. Utilize various computer software programs for student registration, tracking, and communication.

  • Provide students with information focused on meeting academic needs and keep accurate records of student advising contacts.

  • Accurately prepare required reports and other information for the department.

  • Work closely with academic advisors and support personnel in other University units to provide excellent customer service to students.

  • Assist Department with and participate in University and Department functions such as graduation, orientation, recruitment events, etc.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to advise students, and provide support to faculty and staff, while maintaining a professional relationship/demeanor.

  • Effective organizational skills to manage projects, academic files and general office procedures.

  • Competent with personal computers and software (Microsoft Word, Access, Excel).

  • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors.

  • Ability to come to work in a timely and predictable manner.

  • Ability to work with positive and negative feedback.

  • Ability to tolerate stressful conditions.

  • Ability to follow university policy and procedures.

Job Conditions:

Physical Requirements:

Able to lift 25 lbs. and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of two years closely related experience.
