Based in Baxter Springs, KS near the rapidly expanding Joplin, MO area, the Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and play a key role in driving and providing accurate financial reporting for the largest manufacturing facility within the $450mm+ Shape Technologies Group. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists the controller in overseeing the entire accounting function, including financial reporting and internal controls.

  • Perform and review complex accounting analyses, journal entries and reconciliations.

  • Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including financial statement preparation, drive and manage the annual budget process

  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, SOX (if applicable), and other regulatory requirements..

  • Coordinates and supports all external and bank audits.

  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff to ensure the team’s effectiveness and professional growth.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting function.

  • Provides strategic support to the controller, including special projects and initiatives.

  • Handle other ad hoc financial projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and advanced knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Education/Experience and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, supervisory experience required.

  • Proven track record of managing accounting functions and leading a team

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience with a background in public accounting, 5-7 years of experience in industry with no public accounting

  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing company is preferred.

  • CPA designation preferred.
