Location Description Post Consumer Brands in Battle Creek, Mich., the cereal capital of the U.S., is the company's largest manufacturing plant and home to about 600 team members. When you join the team here, you'll be helping to produce some of the most iconic cereal brands, including Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, PEBBLES cereal, Grape-Nuts and Honeycomb cereal. The Battle Creek plant is also unique as it is home to the original barn where C.W. Post started the Postum cereal company in 1895. The Battle Creek team has deep community roots, supporting the city's Cereal Festival, local elementary schools, and hosting several on-site volunteer events throughout the year. Responsibilities OVERVIEW: Provide technical quality support to QA, Operations, & Product Development with emphasis on continuous improvement, consumer/customer requirements, and continuous product quality. Act as official back-up for Plant Quality & Food Safety Manager. Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF. Will be responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality, and environmental practices. Responsible for all internal audit activities of the manufacturing processes which monitor quality and food safety systems. Lead and train Quality staff. Schedule and assign work activities for QA Technicians. Assist in conducting risk analysis, placing product on hold, and completing all necessary documentation. Support and lead the QA Technicians in meeting all sensory and SQA goals. Participate in leading quality and food safety training for all production staff. Direct product quality and food safety surveillance of manufacturing areas and assuring specifications, food safety limits and quality attributes are within defined limits. Work on continuous improvement activities assigned by QFS Manager. Support product test lot activities to assure products meet specifications. Provide reports on quality data for plant quality, operations, corporate quality and other support groups. Write and/or assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions for quality and food safety initiatives. Back up Plant Quality Assurance Manager and Plant Quality Food Safety Scientists in their absence. Investigate, document, provide corrective action opportunities for out of specification micro data. Implement and oversee site environmental monitoring program. Keep a register of all necessary lab and swab supplies and ensure all supplies are stocked appropriately. Qualifications EDUCATION: Four year degree preferred, specifically in Food Science, Biological or Chemical Engineering. EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of manufacturing processes, GMPs, food safety, GLPs, statistics and lab techniques required. Three to five years food product experience in a QFS role preferred. Experience in a supervisory or lead role preferred. OTHER SKILLS: Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated math/statistical computation skills. Knowledge of SPC; the ability to work safely with chemicals, as well as, in and around equipment. Ability to compile, analyze and present collected data in summary form as well as capability to performing a variety of tests. Strong capability to manage technical, scientific, and regulatory information, both written and verbally. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make presentations, facilitate meetings, probe for root cause, and provide training to various groups within the organization and have knowledge of quality problem solving tools. Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language. Must be able to work in a facility that uses wheat, soy, and almond ingredients.
