Location Description Post Consumer Brands in Battle Creek, Mich., the cereal capital of the U.S., is the company's largest manufacturing plant and home to about 600 team members. When you join the team here, you'll be helping to produce some of the most iconic cereal brands, including Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, PEBBLES cereal, Grape-Nuts and Honeycomb cereal. The Battle Creek plant is also unique as it is home to the original barn where C.W. Post started the Postum cereal company in 1895. The Battle Creek team has deep community roots, supporting the city's Cereal Festival, local elementary schools, and hosting several on-site volunteer events throughout the year. Responsibilities The Manufacturing Engineering Manager position is the first level of supervision in the Engineering Department and includes a combination of managing others and contributing individual technical work. There is an emphasis on successfully executing a strategy to improve and maintain process capability through process engineering tools (such as DOE, SPC) and Lean Manufacturing tools (such as Kaizen, SMED). The supervisor will manage current project and customer support work in a professional manner. Working with the Engineering Manager, plans are developed for future project and customer support work. Support, implement, and maintain food safety practices as required through SQF. Responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality, and environmental practices. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Manage staff by setting goals, providing coaching to improve performance of group members, conduct regular employee appraisals, lead monthly meetings, and lead the team to the successful realization of goals. Lead the team while creating a culture based on Engineering Professionalism that leads to timely implementation and innovative technical solutions. Develop and lead a strategic effort to set and determine critical process limits and standards and work with other network manufacturing engineering supervisors to follow a disciplined standard of meeting those critical process limits. This would include audit and deviation processes. Challenge your team to towards six sigma capability (minimum std of 3 sigma) through design of experiments and other forms of analysis to determine the optimum process limits and standards for the most efficient operation of our cereal processes. Utilize, support and model Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts and tools including Problem Solving, Kaizen, Mistake Proofing, Visual Workplace, Standard Work, Waste Elimination and Quick Changeover. Monitor production operations, investigate and evaluate new technologies to resolve current or potential problems, and make recommendations for improvements. Evaluate various improvements and develop ideas for savings, innovation, production processes and product quality improvements that are relevant to the business. Plan for and provide a work environment that allows and encourages participation from all team members, good employee relations, and development opportunities. Mentor manufacturing engineering team members with an emphasis on interns, OLDP (Operations Leadership Development Program) participants and early in career engineers. Determine and recommend resources needed to improve processes. Prioritize workloads for engineering team to ensure timely customer service for all Business Units. Display a high level of professionalism to achieve customer goals by working across the plant, engineering groups, production, and other departments, resolving issues, as they arise. Propose and coordinate team efforts through collaboration with business and technical peers on assigned projects, as well as external partners and resources to generate a competitive advantage for the company. Devise and implement strategies to improve customer service with regards to training, troubleshooting, and incident response services, to share best practices with customers. Through the team, continually drive improvements in the capability of our processes, equipment, products, and raw materials. Manage engineering projects to meet performance expectations and cost projections, direct contractors when appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned to meet company and business needs. Qualifications Bachelor degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Management, Science, or related field. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years combined related experience, with a preference in food processing/packaging, including supervisory experience highly desired. Strong project management training and experience Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems and processes. Knowledge of process capability management Knowledge of process understanding tools like DOE, SPC, etc. Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques. Able to build relationships and inspire others.
