GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Career Services Coordinator is responsible for providing career advising support to assist students in planning a career, through advisement, internship coordination, and by staying knowledgeable of current employment, economic and industry trends and for connecting students to campus and community services in support of career goal attainment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consults students and families on comprehensive career planning services using effective communication techniques with various modes of technology including but not limited to Handshake, LinkedIn, Monster, etc. to encourage and guide students to define and develop realistic goals.

Interprets, develops, updates, and implements career development activities that support programs in exposing students to opportunities in their career field, including focusing on career, continuing education, and certification, providing recent completers with job leads and career opportunities, and for ensuring program participants have a documented plan prior to program completion.

Evaluates complex career planning assessments and engages students in career planning, developing a career plan, provides mock interview support and training to build a resume, complete an application for employment, and search for a job and interview; connects students with appropriate internship, externship, or job shadowing opportunities.

Participates in annual commencement ceremony, ongoing departmental training and cross-training activities to ensure an interpretation and understanding of the colleges programs, curriculum, graduation requirements, policies, and procedures, and resources and services available to students.

Serves as a campus resource for instructors with information tracking and best practices for partner relationship building related to clinicals, internships, externships, and job shadowing, including building and nurturing partnerships with business and industry.

Acts as a liaison on college committees and works with faculty and academic staff to develop student-focused processes and assists in the development of goals and objectives for the department.

Chairs the Career Services committee consisting of faculty and staff to coordinate, develop, plan and execute all career activities on-campus such as the resume writing contest, various workshops and Handshake marketing.

Stays abreast of updates and changes in the current marketplace. Fosters positive relationships with community leaders, including business owners, non-profit organization representatives, and high school personnel to create opportunities for students to be connected with work and internship experiences.

Supervises, plans and implements an annual on-campus and/or virtual career fair.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION:

Associate's degree required; Bachelor's preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Minimum one year of experience (3 with an Associate's). Excellent written, oral, communication, and presentation skills; high level proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); strong organizational skills; ability to maintain flexible work schedule to accommodate service demands at the Batavia Campus, including occasional evenings and weekends. The applicant should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; prioritize tasks and problem solve; ability to function at a high-level in a fast-paced environment; and the ability to provide training and advisement in individual and group settings. Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity. Is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.

Preferred:

Experience advising students in a career services role, experience with career services systems (e.g Handshake); strong grasp of career planning, job search techniques, and resume writing. Experience building relationships with internal and external partners. RELATIONSHIPS:

Works collaboratively with faculty and staff campus-wide. Create and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, non-profit organization representatives and high school personnel.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full time, year-round position at 35 hours per week. Position is compensated at a rate of $42,591.23 annually. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract. Must be able to work days, evenings, and occasional weekends and maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate programming demands.
