Formulation Food Chemist – Illinois

Direct Hire/Day Shift

Kelly Science is currently recruiting for an Formulation Food Chemist with food manufacturing company located in Northeast Chicago. This role is for a highly motivated Food Chemist to play a key role in developing and commercializing new and innovative food products. You will leverage your expertise in food science and chemistry to create delicious, nutritious, and safe food products that meet customer demands.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the food chemistry testing laboratory, ensuring its efficient operation.

  • Conduct research and experiments to develop new food formulations, processing methods, and products.

  • Analyze and modify food ingredients to enhance their nutritional value, flavor, and texture.

  • Develop and implement effective methods for preserving and processing food products.

  • Evaluate the quality and safety of food ingredients and finished products.

  • Create and implement food safety protocols to ensure product compliance with regulations.

  • Design and develop food recipes and formulas.

  • Oversee the design and testing of food packaging to ensure optimal product protection and quality.

  • Collaborate effectively with other departments (e.g., marketing, R&D) to ensure food products meet customer needs and business objectives.

  • Analyze the nutritional content of food products.

  • Understand the chemical composition and structure of various food items.

  • Research and identify new food sources and develop innovative food processing techniques.

  • Analyze and evaluate the quality of raw materials used in food production.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, or a closely related field.

  • Fluency in Italian (a plus).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a food chemistry testing laboratory.

  • Proficiency in conducting nutritional testing of food products.

  • Experience with microbiological testing is a plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance procedures.

  • Prior experience in developing and launching new food products.

  • Strong understanding of food science principles, encompassing food chemistry, microbiology, and nutrition.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and draw sound conclusions.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
