Washington County Mental Health Services Residential & Crisis Support - Community Developmental Services in Barre, Vermont

Community Developmental Services is a Division of Washington County Mental Health Services.  We provide comprehensive services to children and adults with intellectual / developmental disabilities, autism, and/or other pervasive developmental disorders.

The direct supports provided will depend on the job location, job responsibilities, and the specific abilities of the client. The number of clients supported will be determined by the number of hours worked and the type of schedule they have. Hours and bundles of work schedules are diverse and can cover a variety of options during the 7-day week. This could include weekends depending on the employment needs of the client served in each position.

POSITION Residential Support Specialist/Crisis Intervention Specialist

COMPENSATION: $20.81/hr - $21.85/hr

CDS provides a spectrum of residential support models to meet the unique needs of individual residents through supervised apartments, shared living models, staffed residences or Licensed Level III community-based homes. Washington County Mental Health Services’ philosophy of supports is rooted in the presumption of competence and development of meaningful relationships between consumer and staff. 

A Typical Day for a Residential Supports Specialist may entail:

 

  • Trained Residential support specialists employ strategies that are person-centered and uniquely tailored to meet the needs of the individual, including positive behavioral supports when the individual is experiencing emotions they are unable to manage. 

  • Residential Staff provide support to help the individual(s) meet their daily needs, encourage health and wellness, increase, or maintain independence across all areas of daily and independent living skills and access the community safely. 

  •  Community outings are tailored to the individual and their preferences and can include swimming, biking, hiking, social events, bowling and more.

  • Staff respect the individuals voice in decision-making when safe and appropriate. Residential staff provide personal care, comfort care and medical oversight as needed.

  •  Residential staff provide supervision and support at varying levels dependent on the individual need, including supervision requirements warranted by public safety funding when necessary.

  • All support strategies are implemented with skill and care to promote safety, growth, autonomy, and independence. 

  • Transporting clients in staff’s personal vehicles to and from residents’ therapy, nursing, psychiatry and other clinical supports as needed. 

  • Assisting residents that receive communication assessment and consultation, including but not limited to: Speech and Language, Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Facilitated Communication, when assessed and deemed appropriate.

  • working closely with families, guardians, state partners and other professionals as appropriate to maintain continuity of care.

    These programs will also hold Overnight Positions. The hours and days of these positions may vary but include awake overnight hours. Responsibilities will be the similar to the traditional Residential Support Specialist. If interested in these hours specifically please indicate in your application 

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle.

  • Experience with technology such as Microsoft Suite.

  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred but not required.

  • Ability to assist clients that may require physical interventions and frequent physical activity.

  • Ability to effectively manage and de-escalate situations involving clients who may become aggressive and violent.
