BWXT is currently seeking a Mechatronics/Robotics Engineer for its Barberton, OH location!

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies group is seeking a talented Computational Research Engineer with computer science skills and technical leadership experience for developing nuclear physics simulation models and platforms. This position will develop physics and multi-physics models for maturing applied reactor and microreactor design and manufacturing applications, as well as platforms to automate engineering workflows and analyze design space.

Job Summary: The Mechatronics/Robotics Engineer will be responsible for the development and integration of both software and hardware components in our robotics systems. This role involves working closely with robotics programmers to integrate new technology into existing machines, ensuring seamless operation and enhanced performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development:

  • Design, develop, and implement software solutions for robotics applications.

  • Write, test, and maintain code for robotic systems.

  • Troubleshoot and debug software issues in robotic systems.

  • Hardware Development:

  • Design, develop, and prototype hardware components for robotics systems.

  • Integrate sensors, actuators, and control systems into robotic platforms.

  • Perform hardware testing and validation.

  • Integration of New Technology:

  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies and components into existing robotic systems.

  • Ensure compatibility and performance of new technologies with existing infrastructure.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work closely with robotics programmers to ensure cohesive integration of software and hardware components.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members.

  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of robotic systems.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in software and hardware development for robotics applications.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with robotic control systems, sensors, and actuators.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

    Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI integration in robotics.

  • Familiarity with CAD software for mechanical design.

  • Understanding of industrial automation and control systems.

Pay: $ [[custsalaryMin]] - $ [[custsalaryMax]]

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[custsalaryMin]] and $[[custsalaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
