This position can be hybrid-remote for Maine residents only.

Summary:

The Grants Consultant provides high-value consultation to Northern Light Health and its members in working to advance priority initiatives through external funding. This individual works with system leaders and external partners from concept development to identifying, cultivating, and soliciting grant funding from government, foundation, and other sources. Projects may be program, capital, or research initiatives. The Grant Consultant is a key member of system external fundraising efforts and in grants project development, management, and is responsible for the submission of quality grant applications for foundation, corporate and government funding. This individual will work closely with other grants staff, Northern Light Health member organizations, the Northern Light Health Foundation, Clinical Research Center, fiscal services, programs sponsors, and community partners. Essential job functions include: Engaging with Northern Light Health clients and consultants to understand system needs, goals and priorities for external funding; Working collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; Researching data and interviewing people to glean information useful in proposal development; Engaging with external partners and community stakeholders to collaborate in strategic partnership proposals; Establish positive and productive relationships with funding agencies and philanthropic organizations; Organizing and orchestrating the development of complex proposals involving several contributors; Writing and editing proposals; Working in advance of deadlines to assure timely submissions; Working closely with junior grants staff to promote effective engagement of grants services. The Grants Consultant is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Grant Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Program/project concept development; prospect research and planning; proposal writing, editing and review; and budget development

  • Works effectively within funder guidelines to prepare proposals that advance priority initiative

  • Works with clients to ensure the accuracy, completeness, compliance with funder requirements and timeliness of grants submitted

  • Maintains knowledge of system priorities, initiatives, and recent awards that advance proposal development

  • Maintains knowledge of national objectives for healthcare reform and evidenced-based models of care to advance development of proposals that are responsive to funder interests

  • Research, identify and qualify potential funding opportunities from corporate, foundation, and government sources for fit with system priority initiatives

  • Maintains familiarity with terms and conditions, and contractual obligations of awards received

  • Maintains knowledge of federal uniform administrative requirements, cost principals, and audit requirements

  • Provides post-award grants management and support to clients, including coordination with internal grant support departments, external partners, and funders.

  • Follow and recommend policies and practices that maximize the effectiveness of grant services and compliance with federal and state grant policy requirements

  • Manages both individual projects as well as pieces of projects managed by junior staff

  • Maintains and tracks electronic files; maintains and tracks project and grant activity within grants management databases.

  • Advances and builds relationships with funders, Community Health and Grants department and Northern Light Health member organizations

  • Promotes effective engagement of grant services throughout the system

  • Establishes ongoing, valuable communication with internal clients regarding the grants process

  • Provides consultation to clients on project concept development and supports high value, transformative initiatives

  • Provides consultation on the process of securing approvals to move projects forward for proposal preparation and submission to clients

  • Advises clients on funding opportunities and provides a plan for advancing approved programs/projects

  • Develops and maintains contacts with other healthcare organizations, colleges and universities, state and local agencies, public entities, non-profit organizations, to maximize funding through collaborations

  • Work closely with project staff to establish application priorities and parameters

  • Leads the proposal generation process, particularly for complex proposals with multiple contributors to produce compelling high-quality proposals

  • Work closely with junior or less experienced grants staff to promote effective engagement of and successful delivery of grant services throughout the system

  • Acts as a role model and maintains a productive, positive team culture

  • Serves as a grants strategy consultant that aligns with strategic plans

  • Maintains knowledge base of strategic directions and assesses system needs, strengths and opportunities for external funding

  • Prospectively maps and matches system priorities to funding opportunities including vetting of funding opportunities

  • Advances the development of the Office of Community Health and Grants through active engagement in department initiatives to improve population health

  • Coordinates with Northern Light Health Community Relations to ensure compliance with Northern Light Health standards for branding, and release of grant-related media coverage

  • Communicates and coordinates efforts with the Northern Light Health Foundation to ensure positive funder relations including prioritization of approaches to local and regional corporate, family and community foundation funders

  • Organize and coordinate special projects, provides periodic progress updates as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned

Other Information:

Education and Experience

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and should have at least 3-5 years of successful experience in governmental and non-governmental grant proposal writing and grants management, preferably within a healthcare setting. Demonstrated experience with complex federal grants including application development, federal post-award grants management and knowledge of federal grant policies and compliance is a plus. Project management expertise is a must.
