Summary:

The purpose of this position is to prepare and assist in preparing meals following the established guidelines for therapeutic diets. To insure that proper methods of food handling and sanitation procedures are met during meal preparation to include the proper care, use and cleaning of kitchen equipment. Operates the dish machine as well as loads, unloads and cleans the food carts. Ensuring all processes are done in a cost-effective, efficient manner to safely meet the needs of patients, visitors and staff in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow oral and written directions to include therapeutic menus, recipes, meal schedules and cleaning schedules.

  • Demonstrate competency in the accurate and timely set up, delivery and pick up of meal trays.

  • Assume responsibility for the delivery and pick up of food carts as assigned.

  • Demonstrate competency in food preparation to ensure food is palatable and appetizing in appearance.

  • Assume responsibility for cleaning and organizing work area to include the dish room and the food preparation counter and equipment in the kitchen.

  • Meet with patient regarding menus

  • Assists in completing patient menus as necessary while following the established guidelines for therapeutic diets.

  • Receive and store food and supplies and assist with inventory control.

  • Order food from local suppliers as needed.

  • Wash dishes and assist in the dish room as necessary.

  • Equipment and kitchen sanitation

  • Monitor temperature indicators and record as assigned.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of temperatures, schedules, menus, inventory and equipment.

  • Maintain a safe environment, which includes knowing and understanding hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Assume responsibility for avoiding food waste.

  • Report and directly address identified environmental hazards when appropriate.

  • Report and directly address violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.

  • Performs all duties as assigned or requested.
