Amazon Software Development Manager, WW Prime - Core Services in Bangalore, India

Amazon Prime is world’s most recognized membership program and is one of the most critical aspects of Amazon business overall. The Prime Technology team has been engaged in evolving the technology services for geographic expansion as well as building new core services in line with the new program launches. The team has a great set of complex unsolved technical & business problems on the roadmap. The solution for these need to be designed & developed considering use cases across various membership programs in Amazon and not limited to only Prime programs.

You'll be leading development team within Prime org and will join a highly technical and entrepreneurial culture defining and building the next generation of solutions for Prime. As the Software Development Manager, you will be a strong leader who is known for hiring, developing and retaining the best talent. This leader will have a reputation as a team builder and someone who is very good at acquiring and developing great talent. They will possess the ability to motivate, build rapport and communicate effectively with all employees. This leader will have left strong successors in their previous roles and be focused on building a strong, sustainable organization at Amazon. Key job responsibilities

Drive the development of systems that enable different capabilities for Prime members.

Collaborate and coordinate with other Prime leaders and Principal Engineers in arriving at robust solutions for the features being built.

Troubleshoot systems issues while maintaining high performance and availability standards.

Establish mechanisms to ensure operational excellence for all systems, technical operations, and development practices.

Hiring and developing the best talent, and creating an environment which motivates people to thrive in their expertise and deliver aggressive results.

Define and constantly monitor metrics to improve performance and reduce cost.

Prepare executive level communications to share tactical plans, estimates, justify investment, and highlight product performance.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
