Job Summary
This role will support creation of methods to derive loads and boundary conditions and perform dynamics assessments for various engine architectures and support next generation design of engine modules and components. This position requires strong analytical problem-solving skills and familiarity with engine architectures, structural dynamics (i.e., vibration) and finite element modelling.
Job Responsibilities
Perform design loads analysis using commercial and in-house tools and processes. Provide design solutions related to variety of loads and engine dynamics conditions. Participate in engine architecture and component design/development activities and coordination amongst various design teams. Develop design loads and engine dynamics design criteria in accordance with certification requirements. Develop static flight maneuver loads for various flight maneuvers including ultimate conditions e.g. blade out, ground handling loads Develop modelling and analysis methods for dynamic load assessments Develop, implement, and check technical solutions and compliance documentation to ensure they are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints. Identify technical problems and apply/integrate solutions. Execute and implement methods plans, toolsets and approaches that are appropriate and compliant to achieve the design and programme objectives. Support the creation of technical solutions against customer requirements as input to bids and proposals within assigned programmes/projects. Identify and assess technical risk for own work and propose mitigations within assigned programmes/projects. Generate assigned project deliverables, documents, and reports according to the project signature authorizations. Support technical and customer reviews, including formal gate reviews, including the creation and preparation of technical data and presentations of product design. Perform all activities at a level of minimal supervision and support other engineers with peer-to-peer reviews.Job Qualifications
General: Must possess the requisite level of engineering functional knowledge with experience of working/interfacing with other Engineering & Manf. Eng. disciplines (including customers and suppliers) in order to successfully execute tasks within the project team(s) objectives. Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of the Aerospace industry and in the functional area the project/programme is responsible for (eg. Design, Analysis, etc.) in order to successfully perform tasks in the programme. Must possess a good level of technical problem solving skills. Essential: Understanding of different aero engine architectures, installation methods on aircraft Holds relevant technical qualifications (Bachelor, Master or equivalent) or a relevant level of experience to perform the engineering tasks. 1-5 years (indicative) of relevant experience gained within an engine OEMs , within an aerospace environment and in multi-disciplinary engineering project teams Knowledge of static flight maneuver loads, ground loads, and dynamic loads. Experience with turbine engine fan blade out, emergency landing loads, and vibratory analysis, is desirable. Knowledge of generation of whole engine modelling of loads for normal operating engine, failed engine (Blade out, bird-hit, windmilling) Understanding of rotor dynamics: critical speed evaluation, locating bearings, squeeze-film dampers. Understanding of aircraft manoeuvres and translation of loads from aircraft to engines Knowledge of, and experience with regulatory requirements and experience with FAA FAR 25/33 Loads regulatory requirements. Experience of working with Test correlation & Empirical data to improve modelling practices. Knowledge of, and experience with, static and dynamic analysis. Demonstrated knowledge of FEA and loads modelling techniques in MSC/NASTRAN, LS-Dyna. Experience of Unix/Linux, FORTRAN, C/C++, MATLAB, VBA, NX, and Python is desirable. Ability to communicate with aerodynamic, structures and systems teams to ensure accurate load set development and conveyance. Demonstrated ability or experience with development of computational methods relating to loads analysis. Able to act under own initiative in relation to the assigned tasks within defined functional procedures / governance. Ability to describe technical information of a technical task to a wide audience within the engineering business. Have basic knowledge of Lean Principles. The ability to have technical discussions with customers and suppliers as required.
