WSP USA Transportation Planner/Data Analyst in Baltimore, Maryland

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transportation Planner/Data Analyst for ou r Baltimore, MD office. Be a member of our Planning Advisory Team a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This position will be working full-time for our client The Maryland Transit Administration, Office of Performance Management/Office of Customer Experience (OPM/OPX) requiring on-site work in the client’s office in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor 2-3 days per week.

Provides technical assistance to MTA OPM/OCX with data management, data cleaning and analysis, report development, project management, stakeholder and subject matter expert coordination, and other services as needed, including the following services across all modes of operations

Your Impact

  • Completing data analysis of transit functions

  • Preparing transit service analysis and reports

  • Conducting ad hoc analyses for data requests

  • Developing and maintaining Power BI reports, including creation of charts, graphs, and other visuals for communicating and analyzing data

  • Coordinating with the Data Science Team, for the development of queries and data models, and reviewing data science team deliverables for accuracy (QA/QC)

  • Supporting Performance Programs

  • Providing operational data-driven recommendations to improve service efficiency

  • Coordinating with multiple agency stakeholders and subject-matter experts (SME’s) to collect, analyze, and improve data quality

  • Facilitating performance program meetings and project meetings

  • Managing projects, coordinating with program team support, and presenting findings to departmental and senior leadership

  • Demonstrate the ability to manage time and workload effectively including planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details

  • Occasional support provided to the Data Science team:

  • Develop SQL queries (or Python/R codes) to clean, process, and prepare data for different analyses and reports

  • Assist in automating data flows via SQL jobs and stored procedures

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)

  • 1 to 3 years of experience working in the data analytics field.

  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience with discipline-specific software (i.e., Power BI/Tableau, SQL, Python/R (plus)).

  • Proficiency with technical business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific discipline.

  • Experience within the transportation industry is a plus.

  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
