Johns Hopkins University Sr. Financial Analyst, Endowments & Gifts in Baltimore, Maryland
The School of Medicine's Financial Operations team is looking for a Sr. Financial Analyst , Endowments and Gifts to provide financial oversight and management for contributions to include endowments across the School’s departments and central business units. This key role will also collaborate with stakeholders in the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine and the departments to provide oversight of gift planning and usage in accordance with donor intent and be responsible for ensuring compliance with University policies and GAAP accounting standards.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Thinking Critically
Identifies under-utilized gift and endowment payout funds and proactively seeks spending opportunities in alignment with donor intent and departmental objectives.
Recommends and implements improvements to the gift and endowment process, leveraging deep knowledge of relevant compliance requirements and operational issues.
Problem Solving
Ensures compliance with relevant policies and gift agreements.
Identifies potential surplus gift opportunities and proposes spending strategies to the leadership.
Prepares/Develops
Prepares detailed reports on gift and endowment funding on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Prepares monthly journal entries to accurately reflect endowment and gift fund balances for the School of Medicine and its departments.
Develops comprehensive contribution analyses for month-end and quarter-end reporting.
Monitors/Manages
Oversees the execution of gift spending plans developed by departments. Monitors departmental compliance with spending plans and communicates deficiencies and proposes remediation efforts associated with gift spending plans.
Oversees the gift and endowment process, ensuring the optimal utilization of gifts and endowments.
Tracks and monitors all gift and endowment-related activity.
Ensures that incoming gifts are accompanied by appropriate gift and endowment agreements for review.
Monitors endowment payout activities to ensure proper distribution.
Monitors CAF assessments on gifts and endowments to ensure accurate reporting.
Analyzes/Interprets
Analyzes the financial impact of endowment and gift activities on month-end, quarter-end, and annual financial reports.
Reviews available endowed and gift funding to ensure it is being used effectively, in alignment with donor intent and administrative obligations.
Evaluates gift and endowment expenses, ensuring they are in compliance with donor restrictions.
Collaborates with FJHM to prepare reports and analyze data relating to the usage of gift funds.
Coordinates/Collaborates
Establish partnership with FP&A colleagues; Faculty Practice colleagues; Research colleagues; Department Directors, Administrators, and Staff; University Controller; FJHM colleagues.
Communicates with departments and central offices and ensures compliance with SOM and JHU policies as well as laws and regulations around gift and endowment management.
Utilizes communication, organizational, and analytic skills required to achieve goals in a complex organization.
Ensures School and department colleagues are aware of JHU and SOM gift and endowment policies.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced Excel skills, with demonstrated knowledge of Pivot tables, formulas and other functions required. Experience with other data reporting tools also required.
Demonstrated knowledge of other Microsoft Office products, including Word and PowerPoint.
Strong customer service orientation with an attention to detail, accuracy, and a dedicated focus on meeting established deadlines.
Proven communication, organizational, and analytic skills in a complex organization.
Understanding of and commitment to the mission.
Ability to analyze data for budgeting, operations, auditing, accounts receivable, and reserve analysis.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
Five years of progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in research financial management and academic business operations.
SAP accounting knowledge.

Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity.
