Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins University Department of Physiology is seeking a part-time Research Technologist who will work on a team that includes other technicians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to run an independent research project as well as be involved in other projects by assisting experiments.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in research to elucidate the molecular stratification of different classes of neurons in the CNS:

  • Perform animal brain surgeries including virus injection, fiber optic implantation and cranial window implantation.

  • Conduct two-photon microscope imaging of brains, and post-hoc confocal imaging.

  • Quantify and analyze the data generated by imaging.

  • Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.

  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Programming in Python Technical Qualifications or Specialized.

  • Experience with basic lab methods, such as making chemical solutions, histological techniques and molecular techniques.

  • Knowledge with fluorescence microscopy.

  • Able to work with data analysis software such as MATLAB.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field (neuroscience, chemistry, or biomedical engineering).

  • Experience with rodent surgery experiments, such as virus injection or fiber optic implantation.

  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($20,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Part-time

Schedule: M-F/ 20hrs/week

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
