Johns Hopkins University Research Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Reasearch Assistant . Under the direction of the Principal Investigators and Research Program Manager, the incumbent will assist in the coordination and execution of research studies at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity’s (JHCHE) research goals and research studies.

The JHCHE works to promote equity in health for at-risk populations through advancing scientific knowledge, promoting sustainable changes in practice and policy, partnering with communities, raising public awareness of health inequities, and training scholars. The research assistant will support two JHCHE research projects, BUILD (BUILDing Leaders and Developing Power for Health Through Food) and ALEC (Amplifying the Lived Experiences of Community Health Workers). BUILD is a collaborative research project with Morgan Statue University and a community-based organization, Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development. The goal of BUILD is to establish an academic institutional-community-based organization research partnership that will identify the demographic characteristics and health status of the population served by BUILD’s food delivery program and describe the effect of this community organizing framework on food insecurity, mental well-being, and empowerment of its implementers and food recipients. ALEC investigates community health workers’ roles in addressing patients’ complex medical and social needs, psychosocial outcomes, patient-reported experience with care, adverse social determinants of health, and linkages to community resources. It also explores how community health workers’ personal, lived experiences influence, and are influenced by, the extent of their integration into healthcare delivery teams.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of research study protocols.

  • Assists in the development of presentations, publications, toolkits, flyers, letters and other materials for dissemination of research and Center materials.

  • Assists in the development of tables and figures for reports and manuscripts.

  • Performs literature reviews.

  • Assists in the coordination and participation of research study meetings, including preparing agendas and taking of detailed meeting minutes.

  • Assists with Center communication and dissemination efforts.

  • Assists in the maintenance of project databases.

  • Assists with community engagement activities.

  • Assists program manager in preparing required funder reports.

  • Outreaches to potential study candidates on the phone to speak with them about the project, determine eligibility, obtain oral consent, and record responses to interview questions, using internal software tools, database, and script guidelines.

  • Ensures security, quality, and confidentiality of data by following policies and procedures.

  • Makes follow-up survey calls to enrolled participants.

  • Completes data entry.

  • Participates in staff meetings.

  • Completes all training in a timely manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Administrative Tasks May Include

  • Assists as necessary regarding typing, filing, faxing, mass mailings, chart review.

  • Assists in preparing recruitment and tracking update reports.

  • Assists in preparing monthly quality control and data management reports.

  • Reliable transportation required, possibility of hybrid work environment.

Special Knowledge Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.

  • Must have the ability to work well and communicate effectively with others, and execute, consolidate and organize ideas.

  • Must have strong organizational skills, initiative, leadership skills, attention to detail, be able to take direction, and work independently and as part of a team (teams of researchers and with diverse subject populations in particular).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of PC operations and software applications such as MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Access is required.

  • Ability to learn new database and software applications is required.

  • Ability to follow multiple, detailed directions of various protocols.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and diverse patient populations is highly desired. Must have excellent time management skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research or project implementation experience.

  • Experience working in clinical settings and/or with providers and clinical staff.

  • Experience in database operations and/or experience in coordination of medical or laboratory research.

  • Some related experience or familiarity with grant review processes.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY (44,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
