Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service Public Engagement Officer in Baltimore, Maryland

The Public Engagement Officer is responsible for stewarding Global Refuge's volunteer and Ambassador communities and running public programs such as Hope for the Holidays and Fresh Change. Reporting directly to the Director for Mobilization and Faith Relations, this position curates public participation in the work of Welcome on behalf of Global Refuge and the Mobilization and Faith Relations team. The Public Engagement Officer manages the recruitment, training, and communication required for engaging volunteers and Ambassadors, and works with field office volunteer coordinators and affiliates to ensure local volunteers are connected with local needs.

The Public Engagement Officer will "equip the public to live out the work of welcome through education...and tangible action," a vital part of Mobilization and Faith Relation's purpose statement. When applicable, the planning and administration of events for education, recruitment, and celebration falls to the Public Engagement Officer. The Officer must have strong organizational skills, be experienced with working in a collaborative team environment, and be able to manage one's own time well with a variety of tasks. Travel to staff events and representing Global Refuge amongst our networks will occasionally be required as well.

This position can be remote with occasional trips to Baltimore as needed.

DUTIES

  • Manage the Global Refuge Volunteer and Ambassador Network, a diverse national constituent group, who are to be recruited, trained, regularly communicated with, and stewarded along a pathway to deeper engagement. This includes sending regular monthly and quarterly communication to new, and existing, volunteers and Ambassadors.
  • Own and oversee all aspects of Mobilization and Faith Relations' flagship programs and engagement opportunities including, but not limited to, Hope for the Holidays and Fresh Change.
  • Work closely with the Impact and Innovation Officer to explore and launch new programs and initiatives on behalf of the Mobilization team.
  • Conduct training for volunteers, Global Refuge Ambassadors, constituent networks, and internal staff; serve as department liaison for new hire Orientation.
  • Revitalize the Global Refuge Ambassador program by talking with key stakeholders and articulating a new standard operating procedure for Ambassadors which augments their vital contribution to the organization.
  • Plan virtual and in-person local events for engagement and recruitment of new volunteers.
  • Log and track communications and interactions with constituents in Salesforce, Global Refuge's CRM, and chart progress toward strategic goals using the tools Salesforce provides.
  • Send filtered lists of volunteer sign-ups to relevant Global Refuge offices or local affiliates every month.
  • Work closely with the Director for Mobilization and Faith Relations on executing Mobilization's national engagement strategy with the volunteers and ambassadors.
  • Work closely with the Impact and Innovation Officer and the Director on developing a new pipeline approach for engaging volunteers and Ambassadors in a way that equips them to carry out 2-3 action items a year.
  • Regularly meet with other Global Refuge department staff and local affiliates to discern current needs, translate those needs into tangible action, and ask for Mobilization and Faith Relations' constituents.
  • Field constituent calls, support the outreach inbox, and answer emails and requests for information and assistance from constituents.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM
  • Deep understanding and appreciation for different cultures; ability to build relationships and communicate across cultural differences is imperative
  • Ability to listen well and gather impressions from various communities into an action plan
  • A positive attitude and an earnest interest in providing quality customer service to Global Refuge's stakeholders and partners
  • Relationship management skills with a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders across departments
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven; able to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to build new relationships with partners and to represent Global Refuge at high-level meetings and events
  • Ability to navigate and collaborate with a diverse workforce
  • Commitment to Global Refuge's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners; commitment to empowering refugees and migrants
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, up to 20%.
