Medical Director, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit University of Maryland St Joseph’s Medical Center (UM-SJMC) * *I. GENERAL SUMMARY The Department of Pediatrics, University of Maryland School of Medicine seeks a mid-career or senior level Neonatologist to join UM-SJMC as the level III NICU Medical Director. This position requires someone with strong clinical, operational, and leadership skills and experience in neonatal care, quality, and safety to lead the clinical service. The successful candidate will have an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school and a completed Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship with Board Certification. They must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a physician in the State of Maryland. Position Highlights * Level III NICU: 20 bed capacity, ADC 10-15. located in Towson, MD * Staffed with 24 /7 and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners * TeleHealth Support 24/7 from the UMMC Level IV NICU * The Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP) services that provides * Referral to UMMC- Level IV NICU * Referral to UMMC PICU providing ECMO and post-cardiac surgery care * Vermont-Oxford Network. Reporting on Quality Metrics UM SJMC is a 263-bed Catholic hospital with more than 700 physicians on the medical staff. Numerous areas of specialization include cardiology, cancer, orthopedics, emergency care, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical services, diabetes, psychiatric services and wound healing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provides leadership and oversight of the delivery of medical care by clinical staff through direct supervision and audits. 2. Directs activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such utilization review, quality assurance, policies, procedures and guidelines development. 3. Participates in the recruitment and selection process of medical providers and provides regular performance reviews and year-round performance feedback. 4. Serves as a mentor by providing education and developmental opportunities to clinical staff. 5. Maintains an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment where decisions and transactions are transparent and objective. 6. Monitors quality and appropriateness of medical care. Ensure timely and accurate record keeping and documentation to support clinical and reimbursement activity. 7. Participates in the Peer Review Program as described in the Medical Staff Bylaws and policies as managed by University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). 8. Provides oversight of utilization and risk management activities including monitoring of service utilization, adherence to corporate compliance plan, attainment of productivity targets. etc. 9. Promotes cost containment, savings and/or revenue opportunities. Minimizes expenditures by seeking non-to-low cost alternatives 10. Manages physician relations and/or representation. Effectively handles and resolves clinical patient complaints. Manages the resolution of practice related issues of provider staff. 11. Attends standing meetings (board, committee, etc.). 12. Manages strategic development for the practice. 13. Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes, and other training and requirements in required timeframe to insure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations. In addition to the administrative functions, the medical director is also expected to carry a patient load.
