University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Manager of Building and Grounds Services.This position will lead staff of Service Workers that help to maintain and create an attractive and inviting campus environment. The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is Maryland’s public health, law, and human services university. Six professional schools and the interdisciplinary Graduate School confer the majority of health care, human services, and law professional degrees in Maryland each year. /SIGN ON BONUS OFFERED/ /The selected candidate for this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of $3,000. Half will be paid following 30 days of satisfactory service at UMB and the remaining half will be paid after successful completion of a probationary period of 12 months. Exempt regular staff receive a generous paid leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, 15 paid holidays, 3 personal leave, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school. /UMB is Ranked Among the Best Employers for Diversity by Forbes 2022 & 2023./ PRIMARY DUTIES * Provide day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure high performance through training, scheduling, coordinating and delegating work, monitoring and evaluating performance to promote maximum staff member benefit and effectiveness as well as overall functional productivity. * Maintain functional efficiency and productivity by reviewing, developing, implementing, and coordinating procedures with the intent of improving efficiency and complying with relevant policy and safety standards. * Foster and support a collaborative consultant/client environment, providing business unit and campus representatives. * Monitor, review, and evaluate ongoing functional program and controls, assessing needs and facilitating improvements. * Develops, monitors, and controls budgets and expenses for operational area. * Prepare report formulation and provide quality assurance oversight for the area of responsibility. * Plans, directs, manages, and leads the overall operation of the UMB grounds department to maintain a safe and attractive landscape, including assigning, training, and evaluating work for grounds areas designated by the University. * Implement, maintain, and foster the Clean Campus Ambassador program, as well as the Vibrancy Initiative at the University. * Establish , oversee, and maintain landscape, gardens, snow/ice removal, and ground maintenance service strategies and operations. * Manage landscaping service contract as needed. * May serve as in the capacity of an EVS Senior Manager. * Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field * Experience: *Four (4) years of experience in the field of support, general, or facility operation services. Eight (8) years of experience if no Bachelor's degree. * *Supervisory Experience: *Two (2) years of direct supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. * *Other: *Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. * KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES * Ability to analyze landscape development and service plans for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance. * Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
