The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)is Maryland’s public health, law, and human services university. Six professional schools and the interdisciplinary Graduate School confer the majority of health care, human services, and law professional degrees in Maryland each year. The University’s mission is to improve the human condition and serve the public good of Maryland and society at-large through education, research, clinical care, and service. The Office of the Presidentis currently recruiting a person to serve as the Executive Director of the fiscal sponsor non-profit organization Uplift Alliance, Inc. Uplift Alliance was created to help fill the longstanding gap in fiscal sponsorship services in Baltimore City, with a particular focus on equity. Without enough sponsorship capacity to serve all potential clients, local entrepreneurs are not able to secure the support and resources needed to launch new organizations or help existing ones grow. Uplift Alliance was created to solve this problem. The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), along with many other stakeholders, supported the development and launch of Uplift Alliance. UMB and Uplift Alliance recognize the advantage of building on their shared commitment to provide innovative changemakers with support, resources, and programming to carry out their missions and make an impact for residents across the Baltimore City and beyond. As part of its commitment to the success of Uplift Alliance, UMB entered into an affiliate agreement with Uplift Alliance and is supporting the salary of the Executive Director and other staff. The Affiliation Agreement affirms that UMB and Uplift are independent corporate entities with a commitment to collaborate for the mutual benefit of the two entities. This position reports to the Senior Director of Special Projects in the Office of the President. * *Benefits: Exempt Regular * UMB offers acomprehensive benefits packagethat prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development. Exempt regular staff receive a generous PAID leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, 15 paid holidays, 3 personal leave, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school; and flexible work schedules and teleworking options (if applicable per job). * Primary Duties: /Leadership & Management/ * Recruit and manage core staff responsible for client services, grants, finance, accounting, human resources, and other key functions. * Create a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and effectiveness. * Set performance targets and provide staff with coaching and support to reach goals. * Engage with the Board of Directors for support and strategic guidance. * Cultivate new donors and maintain relationships with current donors and writing grants. * Ensure regular, accurate financial reporting and updates for clients. /Planning & Strategy/ * With the Board of Directors, create a five-year strategic plan for the organization. * Develop and implement a year-by-year operational plan in line with the five-year strategic plan. * Grow the organization at a quick, yet responsible, pace. * Monitor and manage organizational risk. * Manage the overall financial health of the organization. * Perform other related duties as assigned by the board. /External Engagement/ * Build relationships and engage regularly with local non-profit leaders and other community stakeholders. * Connect and collaborate with Baltimore-area fiscal sponsor organizations. * Partner with local organizations to provide additional services and benefits to clients. * Participate actively in the national fiscal sponsorship community. * Work with UMB stakeholders to maximize opportunities for collaboration and mutually beneficial partnerships between Uplift Alliance, Inc. and UMB. * Generate positive press coverage for the organization and its sponsored projects. * Perform other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor's degree Experience:Ten (10) years of related experience preferably with nonprofit leadership positions or similar roles Supervisory Experience:Five (5) years of supervisory experience. Strongly preferred: Deep understanding of, and history of work with, the Baltimore non-profit sector. Other:Position will require annual financial disclosure under Maryland State Ethics Law. * *Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: * Ability to read, understand, and respond to complicated financial documents. * Experience developing and leading high-performing teams. * Experience with fiscal sponsors and fiscally sponsored organizations. * Experience working in collaboration with large public organizations (e.g., universities, government). * Ability to work well with a varied set of stakeholders (board, philanthropy, sponsorship clients, and others). * Entrepreneurial spirit and comfort working in a fast-paced, start-up environment. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Commitment to the mission and values of Uplift Alliance, Inc.
