Baltimore City Community College Director of Assessment in Baltimore, Maryland

Description/Job Summary

The Director of Assessment reports to the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning and will help coordinate College-wide academic and non-academic assessment. The Director of Assessment is responsible for building and managing a comprehensive plan for collecting and disseminating assessment data to faculty, staff and administrators across the College. The Director primarily collaborates with the Office of Institutional Research to collect, analyze and present data to support institutional effectiveness. The Director works closely with Academic Affairs, including the Office of E-Learning to support student learning outcomes in the College's learning management system. The Director plays a key role in supporting institutional and academic program accreditations.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates college-wide strategic, comprehensive, and ongoing academic assessment programs, projects, and activities measuring student learning and achievement (educational effectiveness).

  • Works with programs to develop assessment plans to monitor progress towards program learning objectives and goals.

  • Reviews coordinator reports and gives formative feedback to programs on assessment plans and progress.

  • Works with academic and support service personnel to coordinate assessment data.

  • Develops goals and organizational procedures to enhance operational effectiveness of professional development including collaboration with the Center for Teaching, Learning & Innovation.

  • Coordinates academic and non-academic assessment activities for compliance with Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) standards related to assessment and educational effectiveness.

  • Supports advancement of academic assessment and improvement of student learning through effective outreach efforts including consultation, training, mentoring, and resource development.

  • Collects and reviews program accreditation/review assessment data to assist programs/schools in implementing findings for consistent improvement and identification of opportunities to expand student learning opportunities.

  • Working with Institutional Research, prepares assessment to summarize findings and report on the quality of institutional assessment efforts.

  • Provides assessment information to the college leadership to assist with institutional decision making and growth in alignment with the strategic plan.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education including program development, curriculum management, learning outcomes development and assessment, faculty development, and other related experiences.

  • Three (3) years of management or supervisory experience of an academic program.

  • Five (5) years of teaching experience at an accredited college or university.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in state, regional, and/or national accreditation.

  • Demonstrated experience with Program Review and Evaluation.

  • Technical skills using a Student Information System (Banner preferred), including design of databases, data collection and analysis of data related to assessment.

  • Experience facilitating workshops, seminars and other activities for faculty and staff on assessment.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amounts of data.

  • Demonstrated experience using data visualization and statistical tools for analyzing data (Excel, SPSS, SQL, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with and collaborate with faculty and staff across the institution via Shared Governance committees.

  • Academic program and/or institutional accreditation experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Six (6) or more years of experience in higher education including program development, curriculum management, learning outcomes development and assessment, faculty development, and other related experiences.

  • Four (4) or more years of management or supervisory experience of an academic program.

  • Six (6) or more years of teaching experience at an accredited college or university.

  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation experience.
