STScI seeks a Commvault Backup Engineer (#10533) to implement, configure, and support the Commvault Data Protection service offerings. This role is client facing and requires the ability to discuss technical requirements with all levels of an organization. You will support small to large multi-site centers in developing and implementing a data protection and/or disaster recovery plan.

Day to day tasks include troubleshooting backup failures, responding to client requests, and ensuring the health of the data protection infrastructure. You must have strong knowledge of virtualization platforms, TCP/IP networking, Linux, Microsoft operating systems, and database technologies such as MS SQL, Oracle, and MySQL.

This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).

U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status is needed to meet ITAR requirements.

Responsibilities:

The Commvault Backup Engineer works with other IT staff members in the Information Technology Services Division. They are an example for other engineers in terms of knowledge, experience, and leadership. The team provides excellent customer service and technical assistance on all escalations and incidents worked through to appropriate resolution. Attention to detail and a cause-and-effect mindset are an absolute must.

Commvault Backup Engineer responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery playbooks, data storage procedures and processes, knowledgebase articles, and domain relevant documentation

  • Designing and implementing data protection strategies for new and existing customers

  • Addressing client concerns and making recommendations to ensure continuity

  • Maintaining existing project blueprints for deploying and managing the data protection offerings

  • Documenting resolutions and building knowledge base articles

Requirements:

  • Associates/Bachelor’s degree in information technology preferred. In lieu of formal education, relevant and significant industry experience will be considered.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience administering/supporting the following technologies relevant to data protection:

  • Configuring and managing Commvault scheduling

  • Experience backing up to AWS Cloud Infrastructure

  • Experience with Hosted and Cloud backup solutions (Druva)

  • Configuring and maintaining Commvault DASH copies

  • Preference for candidates who are experienced protecting on-prem and cloud-based data.

  • Strong experience with modern and legacy data protection solutions in a large multi-petabyte distributed environment.

  • Good understanding of physical tape libraries and experience with security key managers.

  • Configuring clients in Commvault Command Center

  • Bare metal, database, and cloud recoveries using Commvault

  • Developing and implementing Commvault Workflows or APIs

  • Storage Administration and Array Snapshots

Skills:

  • Commvault Administration and Maintenance experience required

  • Deep understanding of Commvault architecture (media agents, libraries and storage policies)

  • Proficiency with TCP/IP Networking and DNS

  • VMware knowledge and experience (Datastores, CSVs, Basic Networking)

  • Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Solaris, Microsoft Windows recovery, VMware Snapshot Technologies, Windows Server and Linux Operating System

  • Knowledge of security practices and policies

  • Configuring physical hardware for deployment
