Johns Hopkins University Business Intelligence Analyst, Medical Development Services and Analytics in Baltimore, Maryland

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.

The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) is the dedicated development and alumni relations team supporting the entities that comprise Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), including clinical departments, hospitals, satellite clinics, and the School of Medicine. We contribute to Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission of patient care, research, and education through securing philanthropy, building and maintaining donor and alumni relationships, and supporting institutional priorities. FJHM partners closely with institutional leaders, faculty, and clinicians to engage alumni, patients, donors, and prospects in JHM’s work to advance medicine and improve the human condition.

Medical Development Services and Analytics (MDSA) is a data analytics team within the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM), which raises philanthropic funds to support the tri-partite mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine. The MDSA team is responsible for data delivery and analysis for FJHM leadership decision support and to propel the fundraising initiatives of the 22 clinical department and hospital-based development offices under FJHM.

Reporting to the Director, the Business Intelligence Analyst (the Analyst) will provide information delivery and analysis to support to the initiatives of MDSA. The Analyst will plan and execute tasks involving the acquisition and transformation of raw data into useful information for business analysis and operational support purposes.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required.

  • Projects and initiatives which the Analyst will support include:

  • Development of reports and dashboards and focused on medical philanthropy operational support and HIPAA compliance

  • Maintenance and validation of data sources for integration into fundraising platforms

  • Data integrity analysis in development systems and defect resolution

  • Medicine-specific constituent data acquisition and report creation from Johns Hopkins enterprise databases

This role is responsible for data analytics and additional support of performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualizations and information dissemination. Responsible for supporting the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems. Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances clinical & business decision making capabilities. Works under the supervision of a Data Trust Analytic Team Leader or other data governance or analytic leadership appropriate for the scope of work. This supervision may be through a matrixed or direct reporting structure.

Key responsibilities:

1.Responsible for data analytics and additional support of performance measures, ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualizations and information dissemination.

2.Supports the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications.

3.Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems.

4.Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances clinical & business decision making capabilities.

5.Makes appropriate decisions, using available resources, to achieve positive outcomes for patients, visitors, students, and staff in balance with sound business practice.

6.Makes recommendations for changes in the current departmental systems and processes and contributes ideas and suggestions for solutions to the current system’s problems.

7.Responds to urgent, impromptu, and unplanned situations by assessing their level of importance, instituting appropriate action and information appropriate management.

8.Communications decisions to appropriate management.

9.Report and follow-up on software problems resulting in delay in workflow.

10.Prepares incident/occurrence reports as necessary.

11.Prioritizes daily tasks and assignments appropriately.

12.Completes mandatory Epic and/or other software or analytic tool training as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Two years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Epic Data Warehouse internal certification required within 6 months for positions working with patient related data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of project and information management.

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology for positions working with patient-related data.

  • Knowledge of business intelligence technique & tools for the acquisition and transformation of raw data into meaningful and useful information for business and analysis purposes.

  • Demonstrates analytic, planning, and organizational skills needed to manage multiple projects or responsibilities. Ability to exercise sound judgement in handling sensitive and confidential information and situations.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills necessary to interact with diverse groups of people, exchange information, and produce written correspondence.

  • Requires advanced degree of problem solving in a fast paced, high dynamic and complex environment.

  • Awareness of the need for timely communication, ability to identify potential barriers and strategies, and ability to synthesize and integrate information.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use multiple information systems and software.

  • Expert proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet software, database structures, and the internet.

  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to operate audiovisual, general, and office equipment.

Starting Salary Range: Minimum: $46,200 - Maximum: $80,799 (targeted salary: $65,000; commensurate with experience)
