The University of Maryland Baltimore's Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning has an opportunity for an Assistant Instructional Designer or Instructional Designer (Academic Development Analyst or Academic Development Specialist). Depending on the role, the candidate will apply entry level or intermediate knowledge, concepts, principles, and skills. Decision making occurs within defined parameters or within general guidelines and requires significant interpretation. Supervisor defines assignments, expectations, and deadlines. Supervisor may review work for quality. The selected candidate demonstrates initiative and discretion to resolve routine and non-routine matters. The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) was established in 2019 as part of the UMB strategic planning process. The FCTL's mission is to advance evidence-based teaching, learning, and evaluation practices throughout the University community. As a central resource for all UMB schools, the center provides support and resources for faculty to enhance their teaching and improve student learning outcomes. The center offers consultations, course design, professional coaching, and media production services, and facilitates the multidisciplinary Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and Online Teaching Community (OTC) programs. The FCTL is a thriving hub of teaching excellence, offering a wide range of programs, services, and resources, and actively contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * *Primary Duties /Assistant Instructional Designer (Academic Development Analyst)/ * Assist with the coordination compliance of program or curriculum to ensure program meets academic standards and institutional policies and procedures. Ensure activities and strategies meet objectives within each course or program and ensure that academic standards and institutional polices and processes are met. * Assist with ensuring the success of academic programs and courses by providing coordination and advisement in the planning, design, and implementation of individual courses and academic programs including the identification of technical resources and by gathering and reviewing course and program materials. * Assist staff and faculty with the use of student achievement data to inform the planning and implementation of effective programs and instruction. Assist with identification and monitoring of all academic metrics used to track student achievement. * Assist with preparation of periodic reports, financial statements and records on academic program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies. Compile standardized, benchmark, and other academic data; meets regularly with teams to review student academic data, provide coaching and feedback, and support instructional strategies and resources to decrease academic gaps. * Communicates and responds to student questions and concerns; works with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction with program and successful progress to completion. * Assist with identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students. Assist with scheduling for Graduate Assistants, Interns, Physician preceptors, patients, and other personnel and/or subjects required to meet instructional requirements. * Contribute to the success of program and curricula. Reports on work effort progress, issues, and risks to Supervisor. Participates in workgroup efforts to improve curriculum development and training processes by providing continuous feedback and recommendations. * Communicate and coordinate with customers, peers and other organization units as necessary to deliver program and to support the success of other programs. Assist faculty with the use of student achievement data to inform the planning and implementation of effective programs and instruction. Identifies and monitors all academic metrics used to track student achievement. * Collaborate with staff on the establishment of guidelines and standard operating procedures for curriculum development * Coordinate the submission and development process for new course offerings, new programs, and program revisions. * Coordinate demonstration lessons to ensure that all faculty have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed. * Assist with evaluation of program effectiveness to recommend improved methods. Assist with audit process and makes recommendations for instructional improvement in the educational programs as needed. * Provide administrative coordination for academic programs. Provide administrative support in areas of testing, school operations, conferences, and staff and student support. * Contribute to the development curricula for new courses. Assist with supervising class content, implementing curriculum changes, providing timely and regular feedback and planning or advising on the technological materials and textbooks. Work effectively with professionals from a wide range of organizations and disciplines and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, and external affiliates). * Assist faculty in building an interactive classroom and assures that recommendations for improvement are implemented. * Performs other duties as assigned. /Instructional Designer (Academic Development Specialist)/ * Assist with the coordination compliance of program or curriculum to ensure program meets academic standards and institutional policies and procedures. Assist staff and faculty with the use of student achievement data to inform the planning and implementation of effective programs and instruction. Identifies and monitors all academic metrics used to track student achievement. * Identify and implement innovative techniques to develop and maintain courses, programs and curricula with the oversight of the senior specialist. * Prepare periodic reports, financial statements and records on academic program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies. Compile standardized, benchmark, and other academic data; meets regularly with teams to review student academic data, provide coaching and feedback, and support instructional strategies and resources to decrease academic gaps. Provide administrative support in areas of testing, school operations, conferences, and staff and student support. Develop and refine forecasts of instructional resource needs based on growth plans. * Contribute to the development curricula for new courses, assist with supervising class content, implementing curriculum changes, providing timely and regular feedback and planning or advising on the technological materials and textbooks. Work effectively with professionals from a wide range of organizations and disciplines and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, and external affiliates) * Assist faculty in building an interactive classroom and assures that recommendations for improvement are implemented. Assist Senior Specialist in compelling visual and written curriculum content, including PowerPoint presentations, training handouts, and pre- and post-training questionnaires, and supplemental materials. * Performs other duties as assigned. /Assistant Designer */ *Education:Master’s degree in psychology, education, counseling, human resources development, or other related field of study. Experience:One (1) year of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience preferred. /Designer/ Education:Master’s degree in psychology, education, counseling, human resources development, or other related field of study. Experience:Three (3) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience. Assistant Designer Hiring Range:$66,000 - $73,000, commensurate with education and experience. Designer Hiring Range:$74,000 - $86,000, commensurate with education and experience.
