Job Description:

Position Overview

Parsons is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with medium and low-voltage power distribution design experience on industrial facility projects, chemical plants, and refineries. Willingness to travel periodically to other Parsons’ offices, clients’ offices, supplier facilities, and project site locations is expected. This role would be based out of Bakersfield, CA office.

Specific Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Develop Electrical deliverables for all phases of a project including: conceptual design, preliminary design, and detailed design.

  • Develop the design of medium and low voltage facility power distribution systems from the electric utility interface point.

  • Develop the design of emergency and uninterruptable power generation and distribution systems.

  • Develop the design of miscellaneous Electrical systems such as lighting, grounding, electrical heat tracing, fire alarm, public address, security, card access, etc.

  • Develop typical Electrical engineering and design drawings such as: single line diagrams; power, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and other systems plans; electrical area classification plans; electrical equipment arrangement plans; cable tray layout plans and sections; conduit and cable schedules; motor control schematics.

  • Develop typical Electrical specifications such as: electrical equipment (MV/LV switchgear, MCC’s, power transformers, standby/backup generators, UPSs, etc.); electrical installation – general requirements, testing, and commodities

  • Develop typical Electrical databases/spreadsheets such as: motor and electrical load lists; panel schedules.

  • Develop typical Electrical calculations such as: load flow studies; voltage drop calculations; lighting calculations; short circuit and protective device coordination analyses; arc flash calculations and label creation.

  • Participate in the development of Electrical engineering and design effort hour estimates, material takeoffs, and construction cost estimates.

  • Participate in development of engineering proposals.

  • Participate in the development of Electrical construction bid packages.

  • Participate in procurement activities associated with Electrical systems and equipment. Procurement activities include preparing technical data for inquiry packages, preparing technical bid evaluations, and review of vendor drawing and document submittal reviews.

  • Perform construction administration activities such as contractor submittals review, respond to requests for information (RFI), site reviews, and inspections.

  • Perform inspections of Electrical installations and Electrical equipment for conformance with engineering documents, equipment specifications, and safety standards.

  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) for electrical systems and equipment on mission critical facilities.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 8+ years of Electrical Engineering experience with designing power distribution systems for industrial facilities.

  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is (nice to have) with the ability to obtain licensure in California.

  • Knowledge of Electrical engineering and design practices including drawings, specifications, codes, building materials and costs, and construction techniques.

  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical power system analysis software packages such as ETAP, EDSA, and/or SKM.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA, NEC, and applicable Electrical Codes as well as applicable Industry Codes and Standards (e.g. IEC, ANSI, IEEE, ISA).

  • Experience in facility medium and low voltage power distribution system design and the preparation of Electrical equipment and systems procurement and installation specifications.

  • Experience in emergency and uninterruptable power generation and distribution systems design and the preparation of associated Electrical equipment, procurement, and installation specifications.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team of engineers and designers on multiple, concurrently executed projects.

  • Good organizational and communication skills. Expresses ideas concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Accepts responsibility for own actions and honors commitments.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to client offices, other Parsons offices, and project sites for meetings, performing inspections and walk downs, and to assist field personnel and construction team with Electrical technical issues.

  • Proficient in the use of office personal computers, office networks, and the Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Salary Range:

$83,300.00 - $145,800.00
