Based in Southern San Joaquin Valley, J.G. Boswell Company, is engaged in the production, processing, and marketing of cotton, tomatoes, oil seeds, orchards, and cattle. JOB SUMMARY:

This person will assist the Auto Shop/Service Manager in operating and managing the auto shop portion of the ranch equipment shop as well as overseeing the preventative maintenance and fueling of all farming equipment in Kern County. The department staff includes an automotive mechanic, a tire mechanic, a janitor/sanitation truck operator, and several service truck operators. The Auto Shop is tasked with repairing and maintaining all of the on-road equipment and the Service Department is responsible for fueling and performing preventative maintenance of all agricultural equipment associated with operating a 30,000 acre farm. This includes small utility vehicle (UTVs), light gasoline duty pickups, medium and heavy duty diesel trucks and a wide variety of other heavy equipment, including tractors, pumps, harvesters The auto shop is 7,200 square feet and has 2 automotive bays, a truck bay and a tire repair bay.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

Assist foreman in all repair and maintenance activities assigned to the auto shop as well as janitorial activities throughout the Garry Hastin Shop Yard.

Assist in creating, implementing, and overseeing preventative maintenance schedules and practices.

Assist in coordinating rentals of various types of equipment.

Be competent at diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing most of the components on the above mentioned machines. These components may include hydraulics systems, electrical systems, power transmission systems, gasoline and diesel engine systems, suspension systems and brake systems.

Assist in facilitating the maintenance and upgrade of the auto shops safety program and employee training protocols.

Engage in shop training, policies, and safety programs.

Assist with tracking inventory and maintenance of bulk fuel and lubricant storage and dispensing systems and equipment.

Serve as backup in supervising all auto shop and service employees in accordance with the organization's policies and any applicable laws as needed. This may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reporting workplace complaints and assisting in problem/conflict resolution.

Be able to successfully communicate and work with others.

Use computers to input data into the shop maintenance system and access and analyze operational data about shop activities to improve efficiency and manage costs.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Be willing to frequently work on weekends and work overtime and extended hours when necessary to support farming operations.

Thorough understanding of the operating components of autos, pickups, and trucks.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical manuals, financial reports, and legal documents.

Ability to use theoretical knowledge and/or diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electric, and hydraulic systems.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write emails, memorandums and letters as needed to communicate to others in the company and outside the company.

Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.

Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference

Ability to apply concepts such as ractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Bilingual in Spanish and English is desired.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma.

Associate degree or a technical certification in a related field and/or several years of experience in an automotive or truck shop.

Supervisory experience desired.

Knowledge of DOT, CARB, OSHA, and other applicable regulations desired.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Valid CA Class C Drivers License with less than two points on record.

Valid CA Commercial Class A or B Drivers License or ability to obtain one is highly desired.

Pay range: $25-$32 DOE

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
