Job Summary: ( Overall purpose and objective of the job)

The position of Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety skilled and semi-skilled task associated with the maintenance and repair of Distribution Center (DC) equipment including conveyor systems as well as assisting the facilities department with various tasks while meeting safety, quality, productivity, attendance and behavioral Vitamin Shoppe expectations. Effectively and efficiently uses established procedures, tools, equipment, and technologies to complete assigned duties.

Essential Functions : ( The reason this job exists is to perform these functions. These functions are performed regularly, seriously impacts other jobs, and there are a limited number of employees whom performance of the function can be distributed).

Inspect, repair, adjust and maintain conveyor systems, forklifts and packaging line equipment while overseeing the work of the Maintenance Mechanics.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits

  • Install new electrical conduits, circuits; transformers; distribution, lighting, receptacle and control panels in accordance with NEC.

  • Troubleshoot diagnose and maintain Sortation System Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and implement programming changes.

  • Fabricate, repair, modify and weld facility equipment, supports, brackets and braces.

Operate, test, troubleshoot and diagnose problems and correct deficiencies in critical and non-critical equipment and systems.

  • Rebuild, refurbish, install and modify DC equipment including dock levelers, doors, racks and lighting systems.

  • Complete work orders and assignments in accordance with instructions, manufacturer’s recommendations and established policies and procedures.

  • Safely performs assigned functions utilizing established processes, procedures and tools while meeting performance expectations for safety, quality, productivity and attendance

Complies with Vitamin Shoppe’s policies, guidelines and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, OSHA requirements in the storage, handling and movement of product

  • Complete Preventive Maintenance paperwork and review user reports.

  • Guides the work activity of the Maintenance Mechanics and oversees projects.

  • Informs Manager of any problems and actively participates in process improvements

Other Functions: (Incidental to the purpose or the job. These functions are performed infrequently and have little consequences to other jobs if not performed).

  • Generate e-mail, complete checklists and maintain records.

  • Identify parts, materials and supplies necessary to complete assignments.

  • Other duties as assigned

No direct supervisory responsibilities, but leads the day to tasks and projects of other maintenance Mechanics

Education/Certification: Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of intellectual instruction and work experience

Required Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical functions and basic safety protocol

Experience Required: Five years related mechanical and electrical experience

Skill and Ability: Ability to work well independently

Ability to use all related equipment and maintenance tools including hoist, drill press, saw, forklift, grinder, test meters, arc welder, etc

Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, schematics and written instructions

Ability to meet safety, quality, productivity and attendance requirements

Ability to do continuous lifting up to 50 pounds

Ability to communicate in English

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work in a team environment

Ability and willingness to work overtime when required

FEELING: Perceiving sensual characteristics of objects including size, shape, texture, temperature, etc. through touch.

TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly

HEARING : Requiring fine, acute hearing abilities. Able to make fine discriminations in sound such as are required in adjusting machinery.

REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and fingers.

VISUAL ABILITIES: Fine visual acuity with the ability to inspect closely or to assemble small parts; color vision; or depth perception and/or field of vision.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Moderate work; exerts up to 25lbs. force frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally
