Cummins Inc. Customer Engineer in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France
We are looking for a talented Customer Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Engine Marine Department in Loire Atlantique, France (Saint-Herblain).
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Building strong customer and supplier relationships: Acting as the primary technical liaison, you will foster close working relationships with OEMs and customer technical teams, ensuring seamless integration of Cummins’ products into customer applications and enhancing satisfaction through collaborative support.
Optimizing product performance and quality: Leveraging tools like Analysis Led Design (ALD) and Six Sigma, you’ll implement design changes to enhance product performance, ensuring high-quality solutions that meet customer and OEM standards.
Driving innovation in product solutions: Proposing customer-focused initiatives, you will champion new ideas and projects that prioritize efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness, adding competitive value to Cummins' offerings.
Leading technical decision-making: You’ll make crucial decisions regarding product selection, integration, and design that influence the performance and optimization of OEM machinery, directly impacting operational success and quality assurance.
Ensuring quality installations: By validating prototype performance and managing installations to meet Cummins’ standards, you’ll assure installation quality, meeting rigorous performance and environmental requirements.
Translating customer needs into actionable insights: By capturing the "voice of the customer," you will inform design reviews and product change processes, ensuring customer requirements are fully integrated into product development.
By leading projects, you will share expertise, fostering technical growth within the team and advancing Cummins’ technical leadership.
Streamlining processes: By continuously improving work processes and systems across your functional area, you will increase efficiency, enabling high-quality decision-making and supporting innovation across product applications.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
Experience in a relevant engineering discipline is required, ideally with a background in the Marine or Power Generation industries. A demonstrated ability in technical problem-solving and sound decision-making is essential. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Fluent in both English and French (written & spoken).
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Technical Expertise: Solid marine engine engineering skills, specifically in mechanical, electrical, and electronic aspects. Practical experience in engine or genset applications is crucial, including knowledge in commissioning, product integration, calibration, and type approval processes.
Hands-on Testing & Validation Skills: Ability to support application engineering through hands-on testing, validation, and quality checks of product integration. This includes familiarity with DVPnRs, sea tests, and physical fitness for onboard installations.
Documentation & Project Management: Strong documentation skills for creating BOMs and other technical documentation. Experience with supporting sales teams in an engineering capacity, from project planning to execution.
