Optum AI is chartered to drive value on high impact enterprise AI problems, democratize AI through the enterprise ML platform, accelerate the adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) and drive Responsible AI. Projecting to deliver $8.4B of benefit value over the next 5 years through these efforts as well as reduce risk through safe, accurate, and unbiased AI, this is a key focus of the enterprise.
As the Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and execution of the vision for enabling solutions on United AI Studio (enterprise ML platform). As a senior engineer, you will ensure technical tasks and properly detailed, designed and executed per existing standards. You are expected to play key role in low level design activities and breaking down into smaller technical tasks and mentor juniors in execution. You will also need to work with other engineering teams and leaders – solving their use cases, discussing issues and resolving them.

Primary Responsibilities:
Lead software development activities contributing towards the United AI Studio Enterprise Platform
Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security
Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team’s deliverables
Write high quality distributed system software
Decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions
Perform code review and mentor junior engineers
Should be flexible, adapting to meet the needs of the team, project, or product
Solicit differing views and are willing to change your mind as you learn more

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related field
5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer or a Software Developer
5+ years of solid hands-on experience with technology stack like Java (Spring Boot), REST APIs, Python
3+ years of experience with design activities (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
3+ years of experience with cloud platforms and services (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)
3+ years of experience working across the full software development life cycle exhibiting high quality of work e.g. via coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build process, testing, and operations
Preferred Qualifications:
1+ years of experience using terraform or other CI/CD IaC
Proven higher-level understanding of AI/ML use-cases and production implementation

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
