Participate as a member of our team of preparators in the installation of exhibitions, permanent collection rotations, and the packing and unpacking of loans and special projects. Responsible for handling works of art in various situations according to BMA guidelines and standard museum practices, in coordination with the Registrar assigned to each project.Prepare works of art for loan, installation, or storage as scheduled by Registrars (i.e., secure existing frame, add felt linings or spacers, glaze, attach backing boards, construct special mounts, retrofit crates, etc.).Assist with art movement for Photography Studio, Conservation Lab, Print Study Room, Registrars, and Curators as requested.Assist with receiving and releasing works of art, as well as loading and unloading from vans and shipping trucks at museum loading dock, in coordination with Registrar assigned to each project.Responsible for maintenance of art preparation areas, as well as keeping all tools and supplies secure and in stock. Responsible for keeping all art storage rooms clean and well supplied.Responsible for placing orders when new equipment is needed, after completing research and discussion with Curators, and colleagues in Collections and Exhibitions Department.Travel as needed as courier for loans, exhibitions, or to travel for special packing/unpacking, installation/deinstallation of works of art.Assist with carpentry, painting, lighting, exhibition design, workspace maintenance, and local pickups or deliveries using BMA cargo van, as needed.Move works of art safely within storage areas and throughout the building, responsible for documentation of location changes after each art move.Maintain strict confidentiality of all BMA projects, personnel issues, shipments and art movement schedules.Project a positive and professional image of the Museum, and our Department, to professional colleagues and the external community.Appreciation of the mission and aspirations of the BMA , and the capability to articulate the BMAs values, achievements, potential, and priorities to internal and external audiences.Responsible for the installation of media works of art. Requires understanding of A/V technology and equipment, ability to understand and interpret media artists installation requirements, and creative problem solving to create immersive multimedia installations.Responsible for research, purchase, preparation, repair, and maintenance of equipment as needed for media works of art, such as projectors, display monitors, media players, and speakers, etc.Responsible for inventory, maintenance, and keeping adequate supply on hand of tools, cables, and all other elements and equipment necessary for the installation, or outgoing loan, of media works of art.Must keep informed and current on media works of art equipment, migration information, formatting, technology, software, and other areas that assist with the care, maintenance, and installation of the Media art collection.
