TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION L256 MTD Division- Material/Process Inspector I, II, III in Austin, Texas

Performs advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties: Material/Process Inspector I or IIPerforms tests and inspection duties.Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material, and assists in determining cause for material problems.Orders equipment and supplies.Conducts research and development and prepares material designs for concrete materials. Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.Maintains and calibrates equipment.Maintains inventory of test supplies.Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.Secures, logs in, and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Material/Process Inspector III All of the above and:Assists in overseeing laboratory operations and monitoring material testing requirements and results for compliance with specifications.Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers and field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor status of programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.Serves as a lead worker.
