Amazon Front End Engineer II, People eXperience and Technology (PXT) Central Science in Austin, Texas

The People eXperience and Technology (PXT) Central Science Team uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, Machine Learning, and LLMs to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, wellbeing, and the value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team which combines the talents of science and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal. We invest in innovation and rapid prototyping of scientific models and software solutions to accelerate informed, accurate, and reliable decision backed by science and data.

Our team builds distributed, scalable, and highly available systems that make Machine Learning (ML), LLM, Econometrics/Statistical/Causal models run faster in a CI/CD fashion. We own products ranging from Data Lakes to tools for science experimentation, MLOps and analytics to web applications and software solutions integrated with other Amazon systems. Robust and user-friendly software solutions, and data security and privacy are our top concerns.

We are looking for an exceptional, motivated front-end engineer who will collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and backend engineers to deliver intuitive and efficient console experiences for our customers, and directly impact on UX, usability, accessibility, and experience of a product and features. In this role, you will be responsible for developing cutting-edge platform that enable scientists, economists and leaders in PXTCS teams for easily collaborating, sharing and disseminating research findings and model outcomes to customers, partner systems, and beyond. The platform will be focused on evaluating and enhancing scientific approaches, documents, and hypotheses within the PXT domain. Additionally, it will enable leaders to request reviews for their science-related projects and facilitate collaboration among skilled reviewers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive the development of front-end applications that deliver a best-in-class user experience.

  • Partner with product and design to build highly responsive, intuitive, and sleek experiences that will delight customers and set a high bar for all web applications.

  • Know the nuances, pitfalls, strengths, and associated best practices of the various web application paradigms (single-page apps, MVC apps, static site generators, etc.).

  • Be committed to building scalable, maintainable architectures, and to writing clean, readable code.

Successful candidates for this position will have a strong background in building and managing full-stack web applications, leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing infrastructure. You will be creating distributed systems and platforms to transform and model data, to aid research all aspects of HR, including: workforce planning, recruiting, employee engagement, retention, development, employee benefits, and compensation. You have the ability to adapt quickly to new development environments, changing business requirements, learn new systems, gain new skills, create reliable & maintainable code, and find creative, scalable solutions to difficult problems. You believe in agile development and quick prototypes, and you strive to see your work in action.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS experience

  • 1+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis) experience

  • Experience using JavaScript frameworks such as angular and react

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of agile software development methodology experience

  • Experience with common front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS, TypeScript, and Node

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
