HP Inc. Enterprise Security Engineer in Austin, Texas

Job Summary:

The Enterprise Security Engineer is a high-value role within IT, focused on engineering advanced security solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of enterprise security solutions, such data loss prevention (DLP) solutions, SSL decryption and inspection, secure service edge (SSE) and web application firewall (WAF) implementations. The ideal candidate is a versatile security professional who is skilled in multi-platform security technologies, while also adept in managing a range of other security controls, ensuring a holistic approach to the organization's data security and compliance posture.

The Enterprise Security Engineer is expected to with in lockstep with HP's CyberSecurity team and HP's Enterprise Security Architect to ensure that the overall security architecture is maintained in a coherent manner and that appropriate considerations are made for its quality, reliability, and sustainability. The primary role of the Enterprise Security Engineer is to ensure that the respective business, application, data, and technology solutions are in line with the organization's technology and governance strategies, policies and standards. The position will be ideally located in Houston, TX or Austin, TX but other locations can be considered.

Focus Areas and Specialties:

The Enterprise Security Engineer role focuses in the Security and Applied Networking aspects of enterprise architecture. Specifically, the ideal candidate should be skilled in the following:

  • Cybersecurity concepts including Zero trust models, Cyber threat protections (ATP), data protection, loT/OT, firewalls, IPS, Proxy servers and overall security-minded architectures.

  • Advanced security solutions and technologies including data loss prevention, on-prem and cloud proxy, secure service edge, web application firewall, zero trust and remote access.

  • Platform experience with the following:

  • Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls

  • Zscaler zero trust and proxy solutions

  • Microsoft, Palo Alto and Zscaler remote access solutions

  • Intrusion Prevention / Detection System

  • Cloudflare, Akamai CDN and WAF technologies

  • Voice and data networks and virtualized networking.

  • LAN/WAN technologies including MPLS, private line, Internet, cloud, SDWAN and SASE.

  • DNS security and hygiene.

  • Datacenter technologies and enterprise routing are a plus.

Main Duties:

  • Lead in activities related to the design, development, communication, and maintenance of advanced security solutions.

  • Partner with managed service providers to ensure the continuous and optimal performance security solutions through regular maintenance activities, updates, and patches.

  • Assist with the investigation and response to security incidents by partnering with HP cybersecurity team(s) to analyze incidents for validity (e.g., eliminate false positives), when appropriate.

  • Recommend, implement, and maintain security policies, providing continuous improvement based on best practices.

  • Monitor DLP alerts and events, analyze trends, and generate regular reports; provide insights and recommendations to enhance data protection strategies.

  • Work with IT Architecture to research overall security technology, platforms and vendors to recommend best-in-breed solutions based technical requirements and business needs.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT architecture, IT support, cybersecurity, and compliance, to integrate security solutions into higher-level security or IT architectures.

  • Collaborate with vendor account teams to understand and implement new security enhancements as needed to bolster HP's overall security posture.

  • Conduct training sessions for cross-functional teams on relevant security solutions, best practices and features.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Conduct and/or participate in meetings related to designated programs.

  • Advise and recommend architecture strategies, processes, and methodologies.

  • Recommend and participate in the analysis, evaluation, and development of enterprise long-term strategic and operating plans to ensure that the IT objectives are consistent with the enterprise's long-term business objectives.

  • Share best practices, lessons learned and experience with IT / Cyber teams and update technical documentation, as needed, based on current or future implementations.

  • Participate in (and possibly manage) security architecture working groups and act as a mentor to peers.

  • Collaborate with all relevant parties to review the objectives and constraints of each security solution, determine compliance with existing network architecture standards and recommend the most suitable technical architecture.

  • Identify and recommend areas appropriate for further study and participate in any Proof-of-Concept projects required to thoroughly investigate architectural possibilities.

  • Identify, analyze, and communicate potential implementation risks and possible impact to the enterprise for any pending or scheduled change or implementation related to managed security solutions.

  • Serve as escalation point and subject matter expert related to Major Incidents and operational issues within the Security tower or in other towers as appropriate.

  • Assist in building financial cases for architectural directions related to relevant security solutions or architectures, including total cost of ownership and the return on investment.

  • Have mastery of applications needed to perform job functions, such as Microsoft Office, Visio, Teams, Zoom, etc.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Industry experience - minimum 10 years, with 3-5 years of experience at the Expert level.

  • Certifications or advanced training in Zscaler products, Microsoft E3, and other relevant cybersecurity tools.

  • Minimum 5 years working in enterprise networking environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.

The base pay range for this role is $137,000 to $211,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
