TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Database Administrator (Telework) in Austin, Texas

This position is based at 1411 Brazos St, Austin, Texas, but is eligible for telecommuting from anywhere in the State of Texas.

WHO YOU ARE: Seeking an IT professional to develop, implement, and maintain database policies and procedures to guarantee data integrity. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and deliver strategic database solutions. The ideal candidate must have a deep understanding of database technologies and best practices, adept at problem-solving and have a proven track record of managing complex database environments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: The Database Administrator IV-V performs advanced to highly advanced database administration work. Work involves providing direction and guidance in database administration operations and planning; providing for the efficient and effective storage, retrieval, customization, and archiving of data to ensure integrated database systems; planning, developing, and implementing database policies and procedures; and maintaining and verifying data integrity. May assign and/or oversee the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: -Provide professional and technical assistance in the planning and development of TWC on-line transaction processing (OLTP) and decision support databases. -Consult with programmer/analysts to ensure the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment. -Responsible for the development and ongoing enhancements of decision support database systems, monitoring and fine-tuning database performance in both the OLTP and decision support environment, developing and supporting business interface processes and developing database conversion stored procedures. -Implements and maintains policies and standards related to the design of databases, data access requirements, security and recovery procedures for the database. -Evaluate database engines, query and performance monitoring tools. -Maintain disaster recovery procedures and participate in disaster recovery tests and actual recoveries as needed. -May develop and conduct training and/or give expert advice on database/information availability, design policies and standards and database query tools. - May work outside normal office hours and days when needed to resolve production issues and provide on-call activities. -Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures, including IT Handbook and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), that govern TWC IT. -Contribute to teamwork and communicates effectively. -Promote an image of IT excellence. -Maintain a reliable, predictable work schedule. -May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to sustain operations or complete urgent assignments. -Perform other duties as assigned to maintain IT operations.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH: -Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design, of computer operations, systems, and procedures. -Knowledge of data structure design and proficiency with current database technologies in Oracle version 12c and 19c. -Demonstrated experience developing and supporting stored procedures, CRON scripts, and UNIX shell scripts to support business operations and application requirements and to enhance database performance and efficiency. -Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues. -Knowledge of performance tuning, backup, recovery, and security best practices. -Strong experience with SQL and PL/SQL programming languages. -Knowledge of industry best practices for configuring and supporting large, complex relational databases, including database backup/restoration, maintain database security, backups, and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard agency data. -Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues. -Skilled in the development of computer programs and stored procedures utilizing high level programming languages, data modeling, and industry standard data extract/transform/load (ETL) tools. -Skilled in applying data modeling methodologies, data conversion techniques and implementing repeatable processes for creating and modifying data base structures. -Experience working with databases in the cloud environments like AWS. -Ability to work cooperatively with a team of database administrators, analysts and developers to complete work assignments. -Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both orally and in writing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, coworkers, and vendors. -Ability to work independently while understanding the need for communicating and coordinating work efforts with others. -Ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.
YOU QUALIFY WITH: -Database Administrator IV: Four years of full-time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis. -Database Administrator V: Five years of full-time experience in computer programming and/or systems analysis. -Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
