Job/Position DescriptionAccountant II performs routine accounting and financial work. Work involves review, audits, and reconciles of accounting documents and report. May provide technical advice or assistance to department and program staff. The position is responsible for verifying that all necessary and required supporting documentation is available. The position analyzes reconciliation discrepancies between two accounting systems via queries and/or reports and takes the action to process necessary adjustments. The position interacts routinely with purchasers, program staff, budget analysts, business managers, vendors and representatives from the Comptroller of Public Accounts, Texas Building and Procurement Commission, the Treasury Office, General Ledger and Legal departments. This position also will be helping out with the Accounting Hotline and provides statewide administrative support regarding inquiries and requests for information. This position will assist with Texas Identification Number (TIN) and Direct Deposit Program. The position evaluates the effectiveness of procedures and recommends streamlining alternatives. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Use Microsoft Office, CAPPs, USAS to perform essential functions. This positions work involves review, audits, and reconciles of accounting documents and report. The position is responsible for verifying that all necessary and required supporting documentation is available. The position analyzes reconciliation discrepancies between two accounting systems via queries and/or reports and takes the necessary action to process accounting transactions. This position is responsible for verifying that all necessary and required supporting documentation is available. Runs queries and analyze reports to determine corrective measures. May assist with providing unit expertise to other staff. Will help with Hotline and Texas Identification Number (TIN) program. Other duties as assigned. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsKnowledge Skills AbilitiesKnowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting maintenance of accounting records and of automated accounting systems. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to difficult or complex transactions. Ability to work accurately with numerical detail. Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data. Initial Screening CriteriaGraduation from high school or equivalent. Have Accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, financial operations, banking or budget experience.
