Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic (ELSI) research projects and data analysis.

  • Perform scientifically rigorous data management and qualitative analyses.

  • Creatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources (e.g. qualitative and quantitative) to accelerate discoveries.

  • Assist with the design and development of mixed methods (e.g., qualitative, deliberative) and bioethical projects.

  • Assist with subject recruitment efforts, including communicating with participants expressing an interest and all pre-screening/screening activities.

  • Assist in conducting key informant interviews, focus groups, deliberation groups, and coding and analysis of qualitative data.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in information science or health-related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in information science or health-related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • One (1) year qualitative and mixed method experience.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in information science or health-related field.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

  • Two (2) years qualitative and mixed method experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communications, education, information science, public health, or health related field.

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience qualitative and mixed method analyzing data using Dedoose or similar program for data management, excerpting, coding, and mixed method analysis.

  • Previous experience in research/evaluation project management, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management, and analysis.

  • Previous experience doing community-based participatory research.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of basic methodological principles relevant to qualitative and mixed method research.

  • Advanced ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply qualitative and mixed method approaches.

  • Demonstrated ability to use qualitative coding programs (e.g., Dedoose, etc.) and willingness to learn new programs as necessary.

  • Familiarity with mixed methods analytical concepts and methods.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Previous interaction and cultural training with tribal communities.

  • Independent, innovative, and creative thinker.

  • Effective process and project management skills (e.g., attention to details, diligence in data recording/documentation, strict adherence to established assay protocols and laboratory policies/procedures, strong organizational skills).

  • A willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and innovative scientific strategies is essential. Will have opportunities to learn more skills in mixed methods research, qualitative data analysis, and community-based participatory research.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Dr. Katrina Claw as needed. Qualitative research involves collecting and analyzing non-numerical data (e.g., text, video, or audio) to understand concepts, opinions, or experiences. It can be used to gather in-depth insights into a problem or generate new ideas for research. This includes various mixed methods research including, but not limited to, development of codebooks, coding of interviews and focus group data, data analysis of qualitative and survey data, hosting deliberative discussions and community meetings, and other methods according to established projects in the lab. A full-time position is available to assist with the ongoing qualitative and mixed methods projects researching the cultural, ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic research projects in Indigenous and other historically underrepresented communities, and its relation to health, disease, and personalized medicine.
