Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary human and mouse airway epithelial stem cell culture and associated techniques – lentiviral CRISPR and gene expression (25%)

  • Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining of cultures and tissues (10%)

  • Confocal microscopic imaging and image analysis (20%)

  • Transgenic mouse colony management and genotyping (5%)

  • Perform and analyze mouse models of pulmonary injury and diseases (10%)

  • Single cell suspension preparation, flow cytometry and cell sorting (10%)

  • Molecular and biochemical assays, such as western blotting, qPCR, molecular cloning (10%)

  • Bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing data (10%)

  • Maintain electronic lab notebook (ongoing)

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD, MD, or PhD/MD preferably in pulmonary sciences, epithelial biology, or broadly cell biology

  • Three (3) years of experience with standard molecular and cellular biology, microscopy, and cell culture techniques

  • Two (2) years of experience managing genetic mouse colonies and animal handling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in pulmonary biology, airway epithelial biology, and/or cilia biology

  • Proven experience and familiarity with confocal/fluorescent microscopy imaging

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently within the research laboratory

  • Basic knowledge in bioinformatics data analysis

The candidate is expected to take a leading role in projects aimed at understanding pulmonary developmental and disease mechanisms focusing on the ciliated cells of the airway epithelium in the Vladar laboratory. The major responsibility of the Postdoctoral Fellow position is to carry out all aspects of their project including primary human and mouse airway stem cell culture, animal procedures, tissue harvest from these animals, and preparation for analysis, including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, molecular biology and bulk and single cell whole transcriptome RNA sequencing approaches. The candidate is expected to work in close association with technicians and graduate students in a supervisory role, including training in the use of equipment and procedures and overseeing the progress of experiments conducted by others. The candidate will be expected to present regular research-in-progress lectures to various groups within the University, present their work at international conferences, contribute to manuscript writing, and to write postdoctoral fellowship grant applications. The Postdoctoral Fellow will benefit from a highly supportive and collaborative training environment within the Pulmonary Division and the incredible breadth and depth of research in the Denver area pulmonary research community.
