Job Summary:

K ey Responsibilities:

  • Managing the day-to-day human resources functions of the Department of Anesthesiology including oversight of hires, recruitments, onboarding, promotions, terminations, leave and payroll, etc.

  • Partnering with and serving as the main point of contact with the SOM HR Shared Services team and attending bi-weekly HRSS meetings

  • Reviewing, analyzing, improving, and managing the Department's various annual performance review processes and providing coaching to supervisors on appropriate performance management practices

  • Creating, implementing, and managing processes, procedures, and databases that support the complex HR functions of the Department

  • Identifying opportunities for professional development programs to meet organizational needs, training/cross-training, mentorship programs, and other opportunities for improvement and working with appropriate stakeholders to implement.

  • Providing consistent and clear coaching and guidance to the Department's HR staff

  • Responsible for articulating complex HR concepts clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders, including direct reports, faculty, staff, and leadership.

  • Maintaining, in accordance with campus standards, personnel files of current and past regular faculty members, clinical faculty members, exempt professionals, and research staff. Liaisons with the SOM Dean's Office on all faculty records and issues.

  • Providing HR support to management, faculty, and staff throughout the Department.

  • Remaining current on policies and procedures for the above tasks and ensuring compliance with all Department, University, state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis

HR Program Manager

  • Four (4) or more years of professional-level human resources experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

HR Manager:

  • Five (5) or more years of professional-level human resources experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university

  • Four (4) or more years of professional, progressively responsible human resources experience in an academic medical environment

  • Two (2) years supervising and developing staff

  • Certification in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP).

  • Demonstrated process improvement experience and experience using technology to streamline processes.

  • Smartsheet experience and proficiency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.

  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, including public speaking.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices

  • Independent judgment, critical thinking, analysis, and self-directed work.

  • Excellent communication skills are essential as this position will interact with faculty, staff, administrators and HRSS team members on a regular basis.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from many levels within the organization.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.

  • Strong project management skills and experience within a complex and diverse environment.

  • Demonstration of strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
