The School of Medicine's Department of Radiology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Services Clinical Science Program Manager for the Advanced Imaging Lab.

Jobs in the Research Services career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the Development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes.

Nature of Work

Clinical Science Program Managers perform clinical research related functions which may include patient-oriented research or research conducted with human subjects. Patient-oriented research includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or development of new technologies. Clinical Science Program Managers may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research and health services research. Clinical Science Program Managers independently manage clinical research programs, perform clinical research project management functions and/or supervise clinical research teams of 2 or more FTE. Some Assignments will not move beyond this level.

The Department of Radiology at the University of Colorado | School of Medicine (CU-SOM), in conjunction with the Division of Pediatric Radiology at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO), has an opening for a full-time Research Services Clinical Science Program Manager. This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the Advanced Imaging Lab (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4569813&targetURL=https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/radiology/research/radiology-research/labs/advanced-imaging-lab) (AIL), a pediatric imaging research group based out of CHCO and partnered with CU-SOM that consists of faculty researchers and associated staff and students. The AIL Program Manager coordinates policies and procedures and supports the implementation of research within the AIL, which spans both CU-SOM and CHCO. This position ensures consistent research activities related to the policies and procedures of the Department of Radiology, CU-SOM, CHCO, the Anschutz Medical Campus, and the University of Colorado Denver (UCD).

This position will provide essential communicative, managerial, financial, and research support to the Department, the principal investigators, and their collaborators, as well as provide MRI scanning support to the program. This role will work independently but will coordinate with the Director of Pediatric Radiology Research and the Director of Finance and Administration for Radiology. This role will report directly to the Department of Radiology Research Services Program Director.

Examples of Duties Performed

  • Develop program/project goals and communicate goals and outcomes with a variety of stakeholders

  • Participate in tactical and strategic program/project development and planning

  • Participate in program/project budget development processes, including grant writing and submission processes, and regularly reviews to ensure alignment

  • Oversees and administers all aspects of the grants, contracts, and clinical trial application/award process for the AIL, including but not limited to

  • Preparing budgets, ensuring faculty effort is appropriately budgeted

  • Routing and submitting proposals

  • Staying current on changes to NIH policies and procedures.

  • Complying with sponsor application requirements.

  • Submits Confidentiality and Data Use Agreements to OGC.

  • Requests Speed Types for sponsored projects, research start-up, gift, etc.

  • Manages revenue and expenses; keeping investigators informed of potential deficits

  • Processes and oversees procurement for the AIL

  • Invoices corporate sponsors

  • Lead and participate in program/project start up and close out functions

  • Liaise and coordinate with a variety of program/project stakeholders including, but not limited to, program/project sponsors, regulatory agents, pharmaceutical representatives, and clinic/hospital staff

  • Maintains knowledge of CHCO, UCD, CU Medicine, COMIRB, etc., policies and procedures.

  • Organizes and aides faculty members with on and off hours MRI scanning

  • Develop, review, maintain regulatory and other program/project documentation

  • Administers and oversees IRB submissions for the AIL (new and continuing review), aiding and educating study coordinators and/or faculty responsible for submission, on IRB policies and procedures

  • Maintains knowledge of CHCO policies on research-related regulatory oversight.

  • Coordinates submissions to CHCO's Clinical Research Management System

  • Coordinate site visits and other meetings with key stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain a variety of reports and communicate and present data to stakeholders

  • Creates journal entries

  • Assist with and oversee the day-to-day operations of AIL, when needed

  • Administers activities for Advanced Image Analysis program

  • May perform duties and responsibilities of other research personnel when necessary

  • Completes MRI safety screening with participants, ensuring the safety of staff and participants in and around the MR environment

  • Logs MRI scans in accordance with Institutional needs and research protocols

  • May perform supervision and management responsibilities for a team of 2 or more professionals. Duties include, but are not limited to, recruitment, supervision, and performance management responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

  • Four (4) years clinical research or related experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field

  • Five (5) yeas clinical research or related experience

  • Prior experience providing program and/or project management duties in a research setting

  • Experience creating electronic presentations and spreadsheets using complex formulas

  • Experience working with CU's administrative software (e.g., InfoEd, CONCUR, Marketplace)

  • Prior experience with MRI scans and ensuring the safety of staff and participants

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong project management skills and experience within a complex and diverse environment

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiarity with radiological sciences and imaging techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to form effective teams.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, accepted theories, practices, and principles of general research management and administration.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, diversified financial management principles, tools, and techniques.

  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret large amounts of data, recommend solutions, and implement the preferred course of action.

  • Ability to effectively allocate and control funds from various internal and external sources.

  • Ability to communicate with various constituencies to engender trust and credibility at all levels of the organization, and work effectively in a complex and political environment.

  • Ability to establish work priorities, delegate assignments as appropriate, and follow through to ensure completion of activities.

  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, and coordinate financial and administrative activities for research.

  • Ability to understand complex information systems and guide other personnel regarding their use.

  • Knowledge of MRI scanning and safety.

  • Ability to recruit research participants or organize MRI scans.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Condition of Employment

  • Must be willing and able to pass a 10-panel drug screen.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $66,452 to $84,552.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
