Job Description:

This is a Transportation Worker position that will report year-round to the Interstate Sign Crew based out of the Augusta Sign Shop located at MaineDOT's Industrial Drive facility. This position will be involved in all aspects of Statewide Major and Minor Sign manufacturing, installation, and maintenance and will also assist the Augusta Sign crew as needed. Work requires occasional Statewide travel and required overnight stay-away and overtime and includes the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment including working off ladders, crane and bucket truck to perform assigned duties and may require long hours of work. This position may also serve as a backup plow operator as needed in Region 2 during the winter. The incumbent must be able to be reached by landline/cell phone during off-duty hours in case of emergency or unscheduled work. Work is performed under direct supervision. Preference will be given to applicants with construction and maintenance experience.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must meet the following experience criteria:

  • Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification

Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • State-paid Medical examination that includes:

  • a drug test

  • Department’s Respirator fit test

  • Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment.

  • Shall obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period.

  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months.

  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time.
