    OVERVIEW:

    The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

    ABOUT THE JOB DETAILS:

    The Office of Information Technology is seeking an Information Technology Consultant with experience inMicrosoft SQL Server, Windows Server Administration/Support, Microsoft 365 and VMware. The Team within the Office of Information Technology offers professional and technical enterprise services to agencies. The Team resides within the Computing Infrastructure & Services Group, which supports a wide range of applications utilizing Windows Server, Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, VMware, HPE GreenLake, Azure, Directory Services, SQL Server, IIS, Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, and other COTS products. The position is a leadership role within the Infrastructure & Services group reporting directly to the Director/Deputy Director. Work is performed under limited supervision. This position is in Augusta. The CIS Group requires 24x7 server support. This position is required to participate in an On-Call rotation. The position will be responsible for supervising a team.

    WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Senior SQL Server Engineer

  • Design, implement, and maintain database systems that are performant, scalable, resilient, and secure

  • Build logging, monitoring, alerting, and automation solutions to aid in the quick detection and resolution of production database issues

  • Develop robust data backup and restore processes that ensure we never lose data

  • Provide database development environments that allow for quick and easy testing of new features and expose bugs

  • Perform regular database upgrades, maintenance, and tuning

  • Primary technical oversight of SQL Server Team, Hosting Team, and Enterprise Messaging

  • Responsible for overseeing all billing aspects within the Team

  • VMware administration and support

  • Microsoft 365 administration and support

  • Cloud Computing Azure and Amazon Web Services Platform administration and support

  • Respond to customer support escalations

  • Managing hardware and software upgrades

  • Planning and executing growth and expansion

  • Manage and troubleshoot licensing issues if they arise

  • Participate with budget process

  • Interface with Microsoft Premier Technical Support to resolve any open support cases involving on premise or Cloud based issues

  • Oversee implementation, develop, support, build, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments, both virtual and physical by the teams the position manages

  • Analyzes the business requirements of client agencies and forecasts nature and level of future service requirements to recommend information services and automation technology concepts capable of fulfilling projected needs

  • Participates with the development of technology roadmap for the group

  • Knowledge of Azure Administration and Support

  • Knowledge of AWS Administration and Support

  • Knowledge of current information services/automation technology systems and capabilities

  • Knowledge of Exchange

  • Knowledge of information security best practices, in dealing with sensitive data (PII, PHI, etc.)

  • Knowledge with Mobile support and configuration within InTune

  • Knowledge of technical security best practices

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform

  • Knowledge of proper computer system data security/backup procedures

  • Ability to understand and contribute to functional requirements and translate them into technical design and development projects

  • Ability to clearly document features, technical specifications, and infrastructure requirements for self-produced technical work and job processes

  • Ability to train personnel in all phases of computer utilization and application

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to balance the work of multiple projects in an agile environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical computer problems

  • Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required

  • Must be able to continuously monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies as they emerge

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 10 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience. Related training, internship experience etc. may be credited as related experience on a month-per-month basis.
