Home Depot Sr. Manager, Workforce Development in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Purpose

The Senior Manager of Workforce Development is responsible for creating and executing comprehensive workforce development strategies and programs to help underemployed populations obtain the skills they need to obtain a living wage, and then place them in jobs related to the home improvement industry. The team will initially focus on expanding skilled trades programs in the US (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians) and fueling talent for the THD professional contractors (Pros). This position works closely with all levels of leadership throughout The Home Depot, as well as external and community partners and government entities.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Create and test scalable solutions to expand and improve the skilled labor talent pool in the U.S. Partner with schools, government entities, and other partners (foundations, non-profits, etc.) to implement.

  • Build a program to connect trades training graduates to THD's Pro customers for both short-term work experience (such as apprenticeships) and full-time career placement.

  • Support communications and recruiting programs to change the message on the skilled trades in the U.S., encouraging youth to pursue careers in the industry.

  • Create methods for existing Pros to build their soft skills and improve their businesses.

  • Cultivate strong partnerships with other companies and support programs in the workforce development space. Extract actionable insights and implement best practices.

  • Partner with appropriate teams to build external messaging and content to promote what THD is doing in this space.

  • Devise and implement an appropriate set of metrics to measure the success of the strategy and provide a base from which to constantly improve and develop performance.

  • Complete other projects and work as prescribed by Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development leadership.

Nature and Scope

Typically reports to Director, Workforce Development & Military Relations.

Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 8 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years' experience in strategic planning, project management, large scale implementations, community partnerships, and/or workforce development.

  • Experience in developing and implementing technology solutions to address business problems, preferably in an agile/product environment.

  • Proven track record in building high performing teams.

  • Must be able to lead, influence, and drive change and work well in ambiguous situations.

  • Proficient in MS Office suite.
