Position Summary:

Analyze and edit complex financial data collected from financial institutions, bank holding companies, and non-bank entities in the Sixth District for use in formulating monetary policy and conducting bank supervision and regulation activities. Provide reporting guidance to depository institutions concerning reporting requirements and interpretation of reported data. This role will serve on ad hoc groups to establish, review, and make recommendations on System/District policies related to financial or regulatory reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and assess relevant information, using abstract ideas to interpret it effectively, and invite discussion among peers and management, analyze large complex financial institutions and report with commensurate sophistication and insight.

  • Using centralized automated systems, edit and analyze data reported by bank holding companies, financial institutions, and non-bank entities. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of procedures and policies and identify opportunities for process improvements.

  • Conduct research, formulate questions, and query both respondents and others in the department clearly and precisely on complex issues relating to financial information; respond to questions from department management, Board staff, and financial institutions reporters.

  • Continuously enhance professional development by expanding knowledge of current trends in the financial markets, and developments in banking and regulations by reading technical memoranda, user guides, press releases, and other professional literature.

  • Attend related seminars, classes, and conferences.

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of bank accounting and banking regulation, particularly generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP; ASC).

  • Communicate well with others and conduct formal and informal presentations to department staff and financial institution reporters on reporting requirements; research materials for training sessions/seminars conducted by others.

  • Demonstrate independent, critical thinking and ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, make good decisions based on available information, gather and analyze information, solve problems, and plan routine workflow and special projects.

  • Seek stretch assignments and opportunities to implement technology-supported solutions.

  • Recommend enhancements to automated systems or processing procedures to improve data quality or processing efficiency.

  • Coordinate work assignments of one or more analysts. Train or assist less experienced analysts. Monitor workflows and report deadlines using multiple priority techniques and provide status reports to the team and management.

  • Review data and explanations of junior analysts. Interact with other team members, department teams, and Bank staff to resolve data discrepancies.

  • Identify data trends and relationships that may be useful to data users in the department, Bank, and the Board.

  • Coordinate activities of one or more analysts in resolving issues, review other analysts edit remarks, ensure revisions to data are processed and prepare reports for management.

  • Coordinate notification to respondents and receipt of electronically submitted unit reports; ensure contact of missing reporters and posting of non-routine data to databases.

  • Work with technical support staff to define local processing decisions for new series and to resolve technical problems as they arise.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: Two to five years preferred
