How you will create an impact

The Salvage Lead is responsible for all aspects of the North American salvage operation. As a Salvage Lead, you will be responsible for maximizing our salvage recoveries and minimizing salvage expenses by overseeing the performance of our salvage examiners and salvage vendors. The salvage lead will be the dedicated point of contact for claims adjusters, managers, brokers, insureds, and our salvage partners. As a people manager, you make the difference in an employee’s experience at work. Leaders are responsible for developing business strategies and/or translating those strategies into meaningful outcomes and ultimately, business results. Your deep and broad industry knowledge allows you to foresee external conditions that could potentially affect AIG’s future.

  • Performs recovery functions on assigned files of relatively high complexity.

  • Acts as dedicated point of contact for claims adjusters, managers, brokers, insureds and our salvage partners.

  • Steer and coordinate the salvage recovery strategy. Recognize and respond to changing business and competitive environment dynamics to further progress the strong value we bring to the organization.

  • Direct management of the salvage recovery specialists.

  • Manage performance and compliance with established SLAs. Monitors and controls case development to ensure recoveries are maximized and expenses minimized.

  • Work with underwriting on maximizing recovery potential & fraud prevention by reviewing loss trends, recovery carve outs, etc. that potentially impact loss ratios.

  • Support the execution of the GI Claims Salvage strategy, including deployment of technology initiatives, vendor appointment and oversight, and expense management.

  • Initiate and maintain regular contact with internal and external customers to provide guidance upon salvage matters.

  • Responsible to regularly review, modify, revise, and maintain appropriate Recovery Best Practices, including facilitating Salvage specialist recovery process training.

  • Collaborate with Claims to ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace.

  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Researches, understands, and applies laws that relate to the salvage operation. Keeps management advised of legislative, regulatory, and legal developments which may have an impact on recovery results.

  • Provides customer service assistance to outside organizations and AIG Claim Operation management.

  • Trains claims personnel in salvage recognition, referrals, and procedures. Provides input to the development of training programs for recovery units and claims staff.

  • Train and develop salvage staff regarding technical and procedural issues.

  • Reviews files within assigned product line to ensure adherence to established standards, and to make recommendations on actions needed and provide advice to staff to maximize recovery results or reduce expenses.

  • Review, vet, and publish reports for claims management as well as insured's and brokers, claims stakeholders.

What you will need to succeed

  • College Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Significant insurance experience, including management of Auto & Property products.

  • Expertise in Salvage operations and recoveries; industry knowledge pertaining to vehicle damage and valuations, changes in the market.

  • Experience managing third party vendors and performing market research.

  • Strategic and result oriented, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capabilities.

  • Deep knowledge of insurance and salvage industries, ability to determine how external changes or decisions will impact the company, plan accordingly, and execute those plans.

  • Strong influence and communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively and manage stakeholders effectively in a matrix structure.

  • Skilled in change management and team leadership, versatile and results oriented.

  • Strong business acumen, with a proven track record of making sound judgment backed by strong analytical, quantitative, process and systems skills.
