Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Atlanta, Georgia

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I ) is the team behind building the Microsoft cloud. Within CO+I , the Datacenter Planning & eXecution Engineering (DPXE) team is responsible for delivering datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.

The DPX Engineering team is responsible for architecting, designing, and building the next generation of connected systems and tools using microservices architecture or ERP platforms to help manage and support critical business functions such as Supply Chain, Cost, Schedule, Networking, Commissioning, Safety, Planning etc. in a real time manner. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to help us deliver against our goal of building robust automation for these functions through well engineered systems and at the same time design and build the next gen, ML based, recommendation engine to enable cost and schedule modeling, supply planning, execution planning etc. while integrating with the bigger CO+I ecosystem. Cloud Infrastructture Acquisition Engineering/automation, drive workflow improvements, and build solutions to assist in the acquisition & delivery of large-scale data centers through efficient management of cost and schedule.

  • This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

  • This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Interact constantly across organizational boundaries and providing thought leadership with your partner teams.

  • Deliver through your team as well as collaborate across teams to deliver greater value to Microsoft.

  • Coach and grow the people on your team.

  • Experience of managing at least 20 software engineers through Model, Coach, Care to deliver impact.

  • Work with Technical PM and Business counterparts to prioritize, plan and deliver on committed features for each semester.

  • Continuously re-plan the backlog to adapt to changes in priorities/requirements/velocity in an agile environment.

  • Drive Business Impact by aligning engineering systems features with Business Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).

  • Enable complex system integration scenarios working with other members of the team and external teams.

  • Work with Product Group owners to drive improvements in the engineering platforms.

  • Share learnings, code assets and engineering excellence-related recommendations with the CO+I engineering team.

  • Own and drive Operational Excellence, Secure Future Initiative, Engineering Thrive goals.

  • Acts as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) and change agent of Upstream and Downstream of Master data by working with stakeholders and third parties

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of implementing E2E ERP such as SAP S/4 Hana, or D365

  • OR Full stack development experience in at least 2 allied products such as D3365 CRM, SAP S/4, and/or SAP EPPM or equivalent.

  • 4 years of people management experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6 years of people management experience

  • 10+ years of implementing E2E ERP like SAP S/4 Hana, D365 or Full stack and experience in 2 or 3 allied products such as D3365 CRM, SAP S/4, SAP EPPM

  • Experience working through the full product cycle from initial design to rapid production deployment

  • Experience working in construction/capital/lease projects and integration of supply chain activities into Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Energy and Fibre.

  • Experience with best practices and implementing business processes.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
